2028 Ranked Prospects to Watch This Season

The Preps Girls Hoops 2028 Prospect Rankings were updated last week, and there are a few highly ranked players who I feel should be watched more closely this winter. They certainly caught my attention. Here is a look at some players ranked in our 2028 Top 25 who I feel deserve more recognition.

[player_tooltip player_id='1867088' first='Anna' last='Sonko'] is a talented center/power forward who has moved from Cornwall High School to Darrow Prep. She is ranked #4 on the Prep Girls Hoops list of 2028 prospects. Sonko is a double-double machine. Her tall frame and long arms allow her to be dominant on the boards. When she catches the ball on the block or collects an offensive rebound, Sonko is nearly impossible to stop. She runs the floor well and is a consistent finisher in transition. Sonko is a strong shot-blocker and basket protector.

Ranked # 8, [player_tooltip player_id='1867085' first='Rikiya' last='Mohammed'] is an elite talent with off-the-charts athleticism who excels in every aspect of the game. Mohammed is a powerful scorer in the paint when she receives the ball on the block. She can put the ball on the floor and beat defenders off the dribble to muscle her way to the basket. At 5'11", Mohammed handles the ball with precision and is an outstanding passer. She can step out and knock down 3-pointers or connect in the mid-range. Mohammed is a superior defender who contributes multiple steals and blocked shots per game.

I had the pleasure of watching Gleeson play in person at the New York State Championships, and she didn't disappoint. Gleeson, ranked #18, is a three-level scorer who can do it all. She has a very soft touch around the paint area. At 6'2", she has the ball-handling skills of a guard. Gleeson can push the ball up the floor and find teammates for open shots, or take her defender to the hoop off the bounce. She can also step outside and hit shots behind the arc with unlimited range. Gleeson runs the floor well and finishes in transition with a seasoned Euro Step. She is a superior rebounder and shot-blocker.

#19 [player_tooltip player_id='1867081' first='Jahyla' last='Barzey'] is a solid contributor for a team at both ends of the floor. Barzey is an elite defender with tremendous anticipation skills, which create multiple steals. She is very difficult to contain when beating her defender off the bounce to get to the basket. Barzey has a strong floater game and can pull up and hit the mid-range shot with a smooth touch. She has a nice spin move in the lane. Barzey is improving her outside shooting, adding another dimension to her game. She is a skilled ball-handler and passer who creates easy shots for her teammates.

[player_tooltip player_id='1867076' first='Kimora' last='Pearson'] is a three-level scorer who can put the ball in the hoop in a variety of ways. Perhaps the strongest part of Pearson's game is her perimeter shooting. She is lethal beyond the arc and had seven treys in a game last year. Pearson has very deep range and can connect from any spot on the floor. She is a very good ball-handler with superior court vision and passing skills. Pearson is a versatile player who can play point guard, shooting guard, or even forward if called upon. Pearson is our #27-ranked 2028 prospect.
