Lainee Gentry Lainee Gentry 5'10" | CG/SF Greers Ferry Westside | 2027 State AR has been nothing but successful the last two seasons in Greers Ferry, and now, she is looking to be the leader for a Lady Eagle squad that is entering a new conference and looking to head back to the state championship for the third year in a row.

Gentry is a lights-out shooter, especially off the catch. She has a quick release, and defenses cannot leave her open, even for a second. Gentry can also get to the basket and finish through traffic.

Besides scoring, Gentry was tasked with facilitating the offense more this past season, and she found ways to get her teammates involved time and time again. Part of why Westside was so great this past season was because of its team defense, and Gentry was a crucial part of it, guarding her assignments tightly on the perimeter and blocking shots whenever she slides over on the helpside.

In today’s game, outside shooting can be the difference between a glorious victory and a devastating defeat. Westside has excellent shooters, and possibly none better than Lainee Gentry Lainee Gentry 5'10" | CG/SF Greers Ferry Westside | 2027 State AR .

Jasper felt that defeat after watching Gentry nail 5 triples in a big-time first-round win. She would finish with 16 points in that game, but hitting multiple threes every game is typical of the Eagles’ sharpshooter. Just at the end of February, she hit 4 triples against Rural Special and 3 on Norfork.

As you can tell, Gentry is a great 3-point shooter. She is at her best off the catch, and she is lethal from just about anywhere along the perimeter. I’ve seen her single-handedly end games with her great outside shooting, but it also helps that she is a solid defender.

Gentry was a crucial piece in Greers Ferry’s state title run. She averaged 12.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 2.0 steals per contest during postseason play. She is a sharpshooter, and she proved it during this run, knocking down 35% of her triples, including 5 against Rural Special in the district championship game. She made 4 threes multiple times as well.

Gentry also proved that she could play solid defense when it mattered, picking up 4 steals in one postseason contest. Her rebounding was solid as well.

Westside has a significant amount of depth, along with having one of the most consistent starting lineups in the state. This Lady Eagle team spent non-conference play defeating 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A, and even 6A teams, never mind 1A schools. The reasoning behind this dominance is partly because of Lainee Gentry Lainee Gentry 5'10" | CG/SF Greers Ferry Westside | 2027 State AR .

Gentry is one of the better shooters in the 1A classification. She is coming off a semi-final performance where she had 14 points, with 4 field goals coming from the 3-point line. Gentry is automatic off the catch, especially on the wing or in the corner.

Greers Ferry had one of their closest battles of the season in the semis against Rural Special, coming away with the 4-point victory. Without Lainee Gentry Lainee Gentry 5'10" | CG/SF Greers Ferry Westside | 2027 State AR , the Lady Eagles do not advance to the championship game.

Lainee Gentry Lainee Gentry 5'10" | CG/SF Greers Ferry Westside | 2027 State AR was the primary Eagle who was connecting from deep in the first half. Once she had established her rhythm from outside, it was clear that she was not going to miss.

Gentry scored 13 points on 3/4 shooting from beyond the arch. She was lethal off the catch, but showed that she can also hit the defense with a pump fake and hit a dribble pull-up from mid-range. 

Lainee Gentry Lainee Gentry 5'10" | CG/SF Greers Ferry Westside | 2027 State AR was also one of the many Eagles who made a huge impact on the defensive end by applying tight pressure against the Pirate guards. It appeared to me that Gentry might be the best 3&D player in the 1A classification. 

The shooter on this team is Gentry! #55 has been lighting up the nets since the beginning of the season. Her range is from pro, and she shoots it consistently from there. She has great shot selection but also is very good at getting open for her shot. She creates space very well to get off those 3’s and is not afraid to shoot with little to no space. On defense she is solid and goes for 50/50 balls. This team feeds off of each other well and look for the open shot, and that’s where this sophomore fits in. She can play 3 positions and rebounds very well for a big guard. Gaining experience at this age leaves this Lady Eagle a lot of room for growth while preparing her for the next level. Her shot is a force to be reckoned with and it put West Side in games winning by 22 or more. Eden Murphee and Lainee will be tough in the coming years and with shooting like she’s doing, they’re already making their mark.
