Recruiting Report: Amy Holland, Mountain Vista 2020

Since the start of her sophomore season, Amy Holland has been able to both score and rebound the basketball. As a junior, the Mountain Vista senior started to really fill up both categories on the Golden Eagles’ stat sheets. Originally from New Zealand, Holland missed five games while traveling abroad for a family wedding last season and still posted six double-doubles in the 20 games she was able to play in 2018-19. Even if she completes her transformation into a full on double-double machine, that’s going to be tough for Holland to top as a senior this upcoming winter. But it should be fun to watch her try. “There’s not much she can’t do,” Mountain Vista head coach Mike Willahan said. “She can handle it, she can shoot it and she’s a really good defender. Our point guard is one of the most explosive players in the state and when they go head-to-head, Amy doesn’t get beat off the dribble. She’s a great teammate and a phenomenal leader.” Teammate and aforementioned guard Mackenzie Gamble is committed to play at Washburn University next year but Holland is still available. Currently the 16^th-ranked 2020 in the PGH Colorado rankings, Holland has received attention from several schools of varying levels from both inside and out of Colorado. High basketball IQ player who Willahan says is typically one of the smartest players on the court, Holland, who also plays tennis, is an excellent student. On the court as a junior, Holland averaged 10.2 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 2.0 steals per game. The Golden Eagles finished with a 17-8 record and reached the 5A Sweet 16 last winter and expect to be even better in ’19-20 after not graduating a single senior from last year’s roster.
