Recruiting Report: Shamahra Henderson, Thornton 2020

Nothing is set in stone and she still has time to make a decision, but Shamahra Henderson appears to be entering her senior season with Thornton with her sights set on going the JUCO route to continue her basketball career. “At the beginning, I had over 30 colleges interested and last week I was able to slim my list down to my top five,” Henderson said. “Then this week, I narrowed it down to three. I have a pretty good feel for where I want to go and I’m really looking forward to my senior season.” Just over two weeks away from the start of her senior season, Henderson has narrowed her list down to these three schools: Cloud County Community College, Otero Junior College and Cowley County Community College. That’s a solid list for the Trojans guard, who said she likes the idea of having a smaller environment where she can adjust to college life and living away from home and then transfer to another program. Wherever she goes, Henderson will be taking an incredible high school stat line with her. As a junior, the 5-foot-8 wing averaged 17.0 points, 11.7 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 4.4 steals and 3.0 blocks per game. An explosive athlete who plays hard at both ends of the floor and is an excellent rebounder for her size, Henderson, who plays club for the Gators, is a good mid-range jump shooter with a developing 3-point shot. She probably has a Division-II ceiling, according to Thornton head coach Khari Wallace, and inconsistencies in her ball handling and 3-point range are the only things preventing Henderson from playing at a higher level. Wherever Henderson ends up after the 2019-20 season, Wallace said he is expecting her to pace the Trojans on a run to the postseason. “I’m expecting her to be our team leader on the defensive end and a team captain,” Wallace said. “I’m expecting her to lead Thornton to a playoff berth. I don’t think they’ve been there in a while but we’re counting on her to get us there.”
