Recognizing Selfless Players: The 'Glue Girls' in Women's Hoops

She may or may not be the top scorer, but she is the one who seems to always be around the ball. It's like it finds her. When she has it, good things happen.    Like I mentioned, she doesn't have to be the main scoring threat. She just has this presence on the floor that keeps the team going. She makes them flow. She gets after it no matter what her assignment may be. She is the glue and keeps the team connected.   Throughout the state, there are plenty of girls who just get the job done. They “play to play” sort of speak. They understand their role, grind at their job, and compete until the final whistle. I love kids like this because they are selfless human beings who are willing to do whatever it takes to help their ball club win. What they do may not always pop out in the stats, but their play equates to the final score when it's all said and done. These kids are tremendous assets and having them on the floor is a must.   Here are what I call “Glue Girls” that compete around our state.    You got to have her on the floor. Heady PG who sets the tempo for the Lady Bearettes. She has amazing court vision, has poise, can handle pressure, makes the right reads, knocks down the open shots, and can get to the rim. She has talent around her and she knows who has the hot hand. She is selfless and just gets after it on both ends of the floor. I've seen her in clutch moments and she is cool as a cucumber. She's the glue for this team and she is a darn good one.     Plays with tons of energy and effort. A MTSU soccer commit who plays with unbelievable stamina. She can score from multiple spots on the floor, but it's her presence on the floor that makes things open up for others. She can slide into gaps to finish, kick out, or bully her way to a favorable spot. She is going to lock up on the defensive end, get physical, contribute by getting steals and rebounds. This kid is just a grinder and you are going to feel her presence throughout the night. She may not be a high scorer but definitely a high contributor that is a big time asset for her ball club.     Yeah she can score the rock from all 3 levels, but it's the extra effort plays that set her apart from others. I have seen this kid make ESPN top plays. Dive for loose balls, make this save before going out of bounds, she keeps plays alive, and gets more possessions for her ball club. Mind you she has talent and it continues to grow. I mean she is a gamer who lets her play do the talking. Doesn't matter what it is, scoring, defending, getting boards, this kid brings it and impacts the game in the process.     This PG is like a CP3. I mean she is the conductor on the floor that puts her teammates in favorable spots for them to thrive. She too can score the rock, but facilitating and making the defense honor her is what she does best. Mind you, she has that dog in her where she will lock up on the defensive end. Her play is what this team has needed and the old saying “she go, we go” this is the young lady who will help elevate those around her. Solid talent who is the engine for this ball club.     This kid has game. Pure and simple. She is consistent and the things she does on the floor, a lot of it can't be taught. With the ball in her hands, this kid makes the right reads, knows when to attack or set up a play, can set the tempo, communicate (that's big time), and compete on the defensive end. She shows up to show out and keeps her team rolling. She may not always be the high scorer, but she is no stranger to the bottom of the net. High IQ, student of the game, Reghan has the Lady Eagles flying high and knocking down opponents in their way.
