Parkview Tip-Off Classic – Top Inside Performances

The Parkview Tip-Off Classic had post players of all shapes and sizes. Whether you preferred to watch the traditional back to the basket, forceful post player or the skill and finesse player they were both on display. Georgia basketball is loaded with the 5'11 and above athlete ready to compete in the painted area. I will highlight the players that stood out. Offense, defense, energy, and leadership were all considered when picking this group of talented interior players. Adrieanna Brownlee | 6'0 | Center | Southwest DeKalb | 2020 Brownlee is a physical post player for the Lady Panthers. She views the block as her personal space and battles with defenders for position. She has soft hands and because of her understanding of angles, she in many cases catches and is able to go right to the glass for easy scores. She has some vertical quickness that helps her grab several rebounds throughout the games. She seemed to have an understanding of when her team needs a basket and is more aggressive in those situations to produce. [caption id="attachment_118239" align="alignleft" width="150"] Stevens prepares for the inbounds in her game against Newton.[/caption] Jasmine Stevens | 6'1 | Forward | Forest Park | 2021 Stevens was an interesting player to watch. With so much attention on her interior teammate Sania Feagin, it is easy to miss how good she is. Her contributions on the court played a major role in the Lady Panthers runaway fourth quarter against Newton. She plays with high energy all game which can be seen through her boxouts, dives for loose balls, and shot blocks in the paint. She also has a very good offensive game. She can face up and knock down the mid-range or put it on the floor and muscle her way to the rim. She is a very composed player with a continuous motor. We will keep our eyes on her as she progresses through the season. Lydia Freeman | 6'5 | Center | Westlake | 2020 Westlake made the trip to Parkview to take on the home team in the Tip-off Classic. Freeman showed that she was a problem in the post within the first couple of possessions. Matched up against another post with size in Parkview's Sussy Ngulefac, she got the better of the matchup. She showed off her soft hands and strong frame by catching passes in traffic while taking hits during her layup attempts. Towering over most players, what she lacks in athleticism she more than makes up for in toughness. She runs the floor well and has developed a knack for rim running which leads to great positioning in the post in most cases. On defense, she understands how to use her body to effect the shots of other post without picking up unnecessary fouls. Her outlet passes after securing the rebound are timely and on point which helps Westlake get out into transition very quickly. [caption id="attachment_118240" align="alignright" width="150"] Ngulefac grabs a physical rebound against McEachern[/caption] Sussy Ngulefac | 6'3 | Center | Parkview | 2021 A member of the host team, Ngulefac made it a point to show what she is capable of on the court. One of the many posts at the classic that relied on size and strength to produce for her team. She is a rebounding machine having the size to keep other players from getting position to grab a rebound around her. She was also able to block shots in the halfcourt. Her low post scoring was a major part of her ability to put points on the board. She does the work to score before receiving the pass so many of her baskets are simple quick layups. Brianna Pope | 6'0 | Forward | Americus-Sumter | 2020 One of the more athletic forwards at the Parkview Tip-Off Classic, Pope does all the little things. I was very impressed with her energy and vocal leadership. Because of her athleticism, she can guard multiple positions. She crashes the boards hard especially on the offensive end earning several extra possessions for her team. Her strength helps her convert heavily contested layups to And-1 opportunities. She is a great teammate who celebrates when other players on her team perform well. Jasiah Washington | 6'0 | Center | Mount Paran | 2020 Washington is a strong and very active post player that plays with high energy every second she is on the floor. She rebounds with a physical mentality as she is not one to shy away from contact. She has good hands and runs to both ends of the floor whenever there is a change of possession. She has a good feel for floor spacing and oftentimes finds herself in an open area that she can quickly attack from off the catch.
