Coach’s Box: Shayla’s Top Players

A player that can score at all 3 levels and shoots the 3 ball consistently. Great ball handling skills which allow her to avoid the traps and get downhill. A true 2 guard who has added the mid-range jumper to her game. Tough guard that knows how to score at the rim and shoot the 3 ball consistently. A player that wants the ball in her hands and has already surpassed 1000 points with another season remaining. Her ability to get downhill and attack gaps is what stood out most. She could not be face guarded or double teamed. A player that wouldn't be denied the basketball and took over the game when needed. Her ability to score at will and keep you guessing her next move. A player that can defend and score. Her ability to knock the 3 ball and also get to the rim is what stood out most. Great court vision and patience to let the play develop. Knows how to manage tempo and flow for her Bishop Kenny team. A player that can change the game at any given time. Her length and athleticism allowed her to play all 5 positions on the floor. Workhorse on the boards that create extra possessions. A tough player to guard as she has the intangibles of both a post and guard. Her quick release and ability to get open allows her to shoot the 3 ball consistently. She went 4-5 from behind the arc during the game. A player that runs off numerous screens and knows how to read the defense. Playmaker that is still has 2 years of high school remaining. She uses her length to deflect and block shots inside the paint. A player that can rebound through contact and score at the rim. She loves to run the floor and post on the block. Her length allows her to protect inside the perimeter and make it tough to score over her. A player that is always moving without the ball and has the length to elevate over her defenders and score. A quick release that allows her to score. Tough player to guard as she knows how to take what the defense gives her.
