Takeaways From Week One

<span style="font-weight: 400">The first week of games set a great tone for what should be a fantastic season, full of special talents and great competition. Lots of tip-off classics and showcases demonstrated which teams are ready to take steps forward and which players are ready to stand out. Here are some takeaways from this week.</span> <span style="font-weight: 400">It would be wrong to mention the players who stuffed the stat sheets without mentioning players who displayed intangibles and gave their teams energy through the rough patches of games. In her first and senior season with McLean, Crystal Kim has already earned her spot as their starting point guard. She has a high motor, is willing to get on the floor for loose balls at any moment, and isn’t afraid to be vocal. Her junior teammate Kendall Jones was responsible for a lot of boards this week and is turning into McLean’s sixth man thus far in the season. </span> <span style="font-weight: 400">Among the buckets getters from this week included Kat Jenks (Battlefield, 2020) who was in double figures against a very good South Lakes defense. Ashley Allen led Potomac Falls with 16 against McLean in the Langley Tip-Off Classic, which included some very tough finishes at the basket. Elly Glenn (2020) scored 13 for the Highlanders, including some baskets down the stretch when McLean took the lead in the second half. </span> [caption id="attachment_122994" align="alignnone" width="300"] Elly Glenn was a key factor in McLean's victory this weekend against Potomac Falls.[/caption] &nbsp; <span style="font-weight: 400">As far as knock out shooters went, Tedi and Amalia Makrigiogos (Madison, 2020 &amp; 2021)) clearly displayed the work they put in during the offseason and will require a lot of attention for defenses around the three-point line. </span> <span style="font-weight: 400">Megan Baxter (Chantilly, 2021) began her season with 10 points, 3 assists, and 7 boards in a loss against McLean, and displayed she is ready to run their offense this season in every facet. For the Chargers, a lot of attention will be on Lehigh commit <a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/meghan-obrien/">Meghan O’Brien</a> (2021) who had the first of what will be many double-double's this year with 21 points and 13 rebounds. But don’t sleep on her fellow post Sophie Pavlech (2021), who quitely grabbed 9 boards in their season opener. She'll be a key part of Chantilly's defense along with O'Brien.</span> <span style="font-weight: 400">If this first week is anything like the rest of the season, we’re in for a fun winter. </span>
