Last week there was a poll taken asking the community to participate in voting for PGH New England Freshman POY. The list included a slew of names from all over the region. These girls played well above their class and have proven to be significant talents. This is a curated list that took production as well as ability into consideration. Regardless of the outcome, all these young ladies should be proud of how they played this season and understand that they're all brilliant with bright futures ahead of them. That being said, this year's PGH Freshman Player of the Year is [player_tooltip player_id='1052789' first='Avery' last='Wozniak']. She came back from behind in the polls and won with 68% of the votes. Congratulations Avery on the all the success this year, keep up the great work.

Avery was a huge part to our team success this season. Her efficient shooting ability separated her from the rest of the competition. Avery shot 41% from 3, 53% from the field and 75% from the line. Her consistent hard work and dedication in practices showed throughout the season as her strengths increased and weaknesses became decreased.

Taking it home with 68% of the votes, Wozniak is a name that's been featured heavily recently. Evidently for good reason though. The community has spoken and she's walking away with the title of Prep Girls Hoops Freshman Player of the Year.

Avery has been an imposing player making various contributions on the court throughout the year. She's distinctly picked up a lot of steam as the season progressed markedly by her increased production which helped lead her squad to a championship. Wozniak has garnered a lot of attention locally with the team success. With all this momentum expect that encouraging progression to reach even new heights this Spring playing with Team Sims. She'll have a chance to display her game on even bigger stages and put it to the test against some of the best. PGH Freshman POY can just be one of many honors she'll receive. Avery has put the region on notice.

Stevenson came in 2nd place in the polls with nearly 10% of the votes. Nevertheless, she had an incredible freshman season. Stevenson took the prep scene by surprise, even though most of her coaches and trainers would say her remarkable play was anticipated. These coaches have been raving about her ability and potential for a while now. It must be nice watching someone's development be so considerable. She's certainly an ascending talent, even climbing the recently updated rankings to be within the top 10 of all players in the class. The significance as a playmaker on both sides of the ball and the marksman ability being a primary or secondary ballhandler make her so profound. Jules is such a terrific watch.

Ella was the popular pick for many just do due to her stature within the community. She's widely considered the best player in the class. In the poll, the 6'4 star got 4% of the votes, but that doesn't take away from how special she's been. Pepper has seamlessly transitioned into playing a versatile style of basketball on the wing and from the high post. What's even more impressive is she's just as effective from those spots as she would traditionally be from the block at previous points in her early career. The 3-point shot, as well as her unreal ability to dunk the basketball marks her as one of the most intriguing prospects in the entire region, regardless of the class.

Elwood received 4% of the votes. The freshman captain has been tremendous as a first-year starter and leader. Jordyn is an extension of the coach on the floor, plus she makes her teammates better. She's consistently putting them in position to be successful. The offense is initiated on another level with Elwood on the floor, the ball also flows much better with her as the lead guard on the floor. Theres also no waisted movements with Jordyn either; she's a straight-to-the-point type of pg that can be resourceful in a pinch. The natural 2-way ability demonstrated this season has made her an important figure in Plymouth County.

Murray received 2% of the votes in the poll. She's been a considerable stock riser within the class and her spectacular play this season has been outstanding. The versatile guard is a high IQ player that understands how to affect the game, no matter where she is. Regularly, Cheyenne is making plays on both sides of the ball that inject her team with radiating energy. The competitive edge she has stamps her as a prime challenger who's ready to face anyone she comes across.
