About Kaya

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I would briefly describe my gameplay style as being a high-tempo yet controlled floor general. I strive to be resilient in all aspects on the court, while also bettering my teammates in the process.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

My mentality is to leave it all out on the court. No matter what is going on outside of the court, if my team is losing, or if my shots are not falling, I focus on what I can control, and play as tenaciously as I can until the buzzer runs to zero.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I have taken the opportunity to join multiple clubs since I enrolled at Kent School. I am in KALC (Kent Athletic Leadership Counsel), KPOP (Kent Peer Organization Program), KLI (Kent Leadership Initiative), the ALS club, and the women's empowerment club.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I have developed qualities such as effective communication, inclusion, leading by example, and being a shoulder to lean on. I know what it feels like to feel un welcomed in tight-knit communities, and I hope to never make anybody feel like that, and to push them to be their best selves along the way.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I have faced the challenge of having to live with a single mother of 3 for the past few years. It has pushed me to be the most hard working person that I can possibly be, using the elders in my family as role models, and has taught me the immense importance of family as we have become very close in the process.

What type of college are you looking for?

I am looking for a college that cares about the importance of community and culture as much as Kent does. Kent has taught me so many things about myself and about the person I wish to one day become, due to my peers and teachers pushing me to reach my fullest potential.
