Jayla Thompson Jayla Thompson 5'8" | PF/SF H.L. Bourgeois | 2027 State LA is making her move! Now No. 28 in Louisiana and No. 5 at her position, she brings a résumé that includes Class 5A All-State Honorable Mention recognition and a First-Team All-Bayou Region selection after averaging 13.8 points last season.

From a coaching and scouting perspective, her combination of scoring and rebounding makes her worth following. Previous Prep Girls Hoops coverage highlighted her physical approach on the glass and reported 7.2 rebounds per game—a contribution that gives her value beyond scoring.

Her climb adds momentum heading into her senior season, and I’m looking forward to seeing how she builds on that production at H.L. Bourgeois. Congratulations, Jayla—keep competing and finish strong!

Averaging 12.3 points per game, Jayla impacts the game in a simple but effective way. She’s a strong athlete who takes pride in her defense, often turning stops into points by converting off turnovers she creates herself. Jayla doesn’t overcomplicate things—she knocks down open shots, attacks when the lane is there, and finishes at the free-throw line. Her all-around approach makes her extremely valuable on both ends of the court.

Jayla is a physically gifted defender who applies heavy ball pressure. When she is guarding the ball, her lengthy frame forces the ball-handler to pick up their dribble and force a bad pass. Jayla doesn’t allow any passes to make it passed her at all, as soon as the ball leaves the offensive player’s hand, it’s already in hers.
