Houston’s Rising Basketball Stars: Future of Girls’ Hoops

Every year, it seems that our state produces solid talent at the lower levels, who are ready for the big stage. Younger girls are coming into the fray, are getting coached up, and are getting prepared to compete at a higher level. What does that mean, you might ask? Girls who are rising freshmen (some rising 8th graders) will be able to step onto the court their first year of high school and contribute right away. It used to be that you had to wait, learn, and sit for a while before it was your turn to compete. Not anymore. Girls are coming in primed and ready.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Check out some young pups who are ready to give it a go when school ball rolls around. This kid has great make-up, and her skill level is second to none. She just hoops, getting after it on each and every possession. Offensively, she is going to exploit an opponent's weakness, getting to favorable spots to score the basketball. Defensively, she is going to sit down and guard, making it tough for an opponent to operate. CB had a great showing in Houston, where she not only stood out but showed everyone what she is bringing to the Lebanon ball club. Her game has grown over the years, and she has become a prominent figure in the middle. She anchors the paint on the defensive end, blocking shots and grabbing boards. Her offensive game has kicked up a notch, where she can score with her back to the basket over either shoulder, power through finishing off two feet, knocking down short corner and elbow shots, and is a great finisher, especially in the screen game. She is a hard worker who brings an amazing work ethic to the table. Keep an eye on this kid as she continues to grow (both in size and in her game.) Someone who is a difference maker, this kid plays with such energy, she is always in “go” mode, and creates havoc everywhere she is on the floor. She is a lockdown defender, putting other kids in the phone booth and slamming the door. Offensively, she is a downhill threat who gets to the rim. Young pup with handles, has amazing court vision, and distributes the rock on time. Her ability to create is nice, as she can get a shot off from all 3 levels. She's a tough competitor who plays the game fearlessly. Someone who is passionate about the game and her craft, you can see it every time she steps onto the floor; she is there to make an impact and leave her mark on the game.
