WIAA/WBCA Summer Slam: More Names to Note

The Scholastic Live Period tips off on Thursday, and for the second year in a row, more teams are participating than the previous year. We'll highlight a few names to watch for coaches at every level before Summer Slam tips off over the next few days. I thoroughly enjoyed the event last year, as coaches from every level attended, and I expect it to be just as good, if not better than it was in 2024.   Izzy Holz   The Columbus Catholic rising sophomore had an excellent first season of high school basketball. Holz led her team in scoring and is the first of what could be a wave of talent at Columbus Catholic coming over the next few years. Holz shot the ball well last season and could knock down shots as a spot shooter, running away from the ball or off the dribble. She was a reliable kid who should have an opportunity to excel at the Scholastic Live Period starting tomorrow.   Bre Heller   The Heller name has been a staple in the Mauston girls' basketball program over the past few seasons. Kylie just wrapped up an excellent career with the Golden Eagles, and Bre had a solid junior season for her program. Bre shot the ball well last season and could hurt teams as a spot shooter on the perimeter. She also rebounded the ball well for a kid who can space the floor. She recorded double-doubles last season, which showed how willing she is to dig in and rebound on the defensive end of the floor.   [player_tooltip player_id='533065' first='Rowan' last='Klesmit']   The Neenah native had an outstanding junior season for the Rockets, leading her team to a Sectional Semifinal. Klesmit's ability to create shots for herself and how quickly the 2026 graduate can get those shots off at her size make her a headache for kids to guard. Klesmit is also quick enough to turn the corner and make plays attacking the basket. She's a scholarship-level talent who will display her talent to multiple scholarship programs in Appleton.   Ella Myers   The 6'1 River Valley forward is a kid I'm eager to see for the first time in Appleton. Myers is a double-double threat whenever she steps on the floor. She has excellent hands that help her grab rebounds in traffic and make contested catches in the post. She's a well-rounded post kid who can finish around the basket and use her length to control the areas around the basket.
