The beautiful thing about a new year is the opportunity for new prospects to emerge. High school basketball around the state has been great for a while now. I feel more young ladies come onto this platform ready to compete as they have been putting in work in multiple ways. Their presence is met with such optimism, as you never know how they will adapt to the game. Let me rephrase that, how quickly they will adapt to the speed of the game. I can go back over the years and see how young ladies have progressed from their freshman year to their senior year. We have had tons of young ladies who have entered the high school realm as young pups ready to jump off the porch to highly touted prospects sought after by D1 programs. The list has grown over the years, yet here we are yet again with a new crop of kids to cheer for as they embark on this high school journey.

It's a long road ahead, but four years will be gone before you know it. Each step you make as a prospect is important, but making sure to seize the day and take hold of each opportunity is what you have to account for. This game is a blessing, and what you put into it, the game will give back to you. This sport is phenomenal, and this culture that encompasses our state stretches from the city lights of Memphis to the mountains just outside of Bristol.

Here are some young ladies whom I am looking forward to seeing and covering as they step into the high school ranks of Tennessee basketball.

Will be suiting up for Loretto this upcoming season. This young lady is a fearless ballplayer willing to take it to the opposition. Possesses dynamic handles, can score the ball with ease, and she is and will be a jolt of energy to the Lady Mustangs' program. I have seen this kid in multiple settings, and she is a go-getter. Look for her to be a solid addition to this program that will helpfully bring more championship opportunities to this highly-touted Lady Mustangs program.

Transfer student who will be suiting up for The Webb Feet program in Bell Buckle, TN. This shifty guard is someone who can make plays. She can score from all three levels, but her biggest attribute is on the defensive end. She is a “dawg” getting steals like crazy as she creates chaos for opposing teams. She brings a solid body of work to the Webb program that should help them compete for postseason opportunities.

I know she suited up for the Lady Tigers last year, but she is now considered a high school student. This combo guard brings speed and tenacity into the fold, where she gets after it on both ends of the floor. She can spot up along the arc to knock down the 3-ball, or put it on the floor, being aggressive as she slices to the rim. It's her length that poses a threat; she gets steals and deflections that end in easy transition buckets. She has a year under her belt as an 8th grader playing up. Look for her to be more confident and comfortable on the floor as she dazzles the crowd and gets after it.

Basketball is in her DNA, and it's going to be fun to see what this young hooper will do now that she is under her dad's leadership. Carleigh is a gamer, and when I tell you she can hoop, she can hoop. She can score from all 3 levels, plays tough defense, and just eats, sleeps, and breathes this sport. She has been molded on multiple platforms, so the adjustment period shouldn't be as tough. Once she gets her footing, look for her to be the spark plug for this Lady Devilettes program.
