Nearly 100 prospects competed on Sunday in the Prep Girls Hoops Freshman Showcase at Maple Grove Middle School. We'll be releasing the first ranking of the 2029 class in a few weeks – our annual Freshman 50 – and numerous players made a strong case that they should be included. We're publishing evaluations on all 10 teams in the event. This is the best of Team 6, part 2.

Hilgert's versatility was on full display at the Freshman Showcase. Whether the team needed an aggressive defender, a powerful presence on the glass, or a burst of scoring, the [program_tooltip program_id='712722' first='North' last='Tartan'] EYBL guard was there to provide it. A relentless competitor with an endless motor, it was no surprise that the Chanhassen freshman was willing to do whatever it took for her team to win. We've seen big leaps in Hilgert's game in a relatively short amount of time, so don't be surprised if she has a breakout year with the Storm this winter.

Birk was a key component to Team 6's success on Sunday. With a long, wiry frame, the 5'8 guard was easily able to get in the passing lanes, causing disruption on the defensive end. Light on her feet, Wynne has quick lateral movement as well, allowing her to excel as a perimeter defender. On the offensive end, Birk plays with a high basketball IQ. She understands how to properly space the floor and knows where to put the ball, who to give it to, and when. Having already played on varsity, the Eagan freshman is likely to see a larger role this winter.

Baartman has worked her way onto our radar over the past year or so. We've seen her become a consistent double-digit scorer for the [program_tooltip program_id='714566' first='Minnesota' last='Stars'], and watched her begin to carve out a role on the Goodhue varsity. At the Freshman Showcase, Aza did all the little things; she was aggressive on the boards, defended with energy, and didn't turn down an open look. For the most part the 5'10 forward kept things simple, but plays like her wrap-around pass to a trailing teammate in transition showed just how good Baartman has the potential to be.

Another member of the Wildcats squad, Schmaltz was a pleasant surprise from the Freshman Showcase. The 5'3 guard's game is simply overflowing with confidence. She pushes the pace in transition, sees the floor well, has a strong set of fundamentals, and just plays incredibly hard at all times. The [program_tooltip program_id='712700' first='Minnesota' last='Suns'] guard is also a vocal defender, and an unselfish passer with plenty of speed. Despite her small stature, Georgia had no problem making her presence known on Sunday. After her most recent performance, we are certainly hoping to see the Goodhue freshman make her varsity debut this winter.
