Rodgers’ 2A Blacksburg team may have been on the wrong end of a decision against 3A Camden but she still put together a valiant performance with nine points. Tenacity and fearlessness are key elements to her game as she does not shy away from tough shots nor does she shy away from contact. Rodgers was one of three team co-captains on last season’s Wildcats team that advanced to the 2A Upper State semifinals. She is entering her third season playing at the varsity level. Getting out in transition, collecting steals and connecting on 3-point attempts are other positive elements to Rodgers’ skillset.

Rodgers had a rough go of things in 2A Blacksburg’s first matchup of the day against 4A Gaffney but improved in her team’s contest against 5A Dorman. Playing point is one of the many attributes of Rodgers’ game and she displays an ability to connect on her shot opportunities from either midrange or long range. One can place Rodgers in a team’s starting five at either one of the two backcourt spots. Rodgers has played at the high school varsity level since she was an eighth grader and would play in 22 contests last season for the Wildcats. She averaged 11.7 points, 2.8 steals and 2.7 rebounds per game last season.

Time was of the Essence for 2A Blacksburg in a thrilling matchup against homestanding 5A Division 1 Spartanburg. Rodgers and her Wildcats may have come up a bit short but the 18 points the star Blacksburg freshman placed on the scoreboard kept her team in position to spoil Spartanburg’s party. Rodgers overcame some early struggles to make clutch baskets for her team in the second quarter. She made plenty of tough shots – a testament to how skilled she already is and the attention she draws from defenses. Rodgers primarily plays point and is a ferocious rim attacker but can also give a team productive minutes at the two. Blacksburg, during its time in Spartanburg, also earned a win over Union County.
