October is the final full month without high school basketball. At this stage of the calendar year, ensuring that one's game is as sharp as possible in preparation for that first contest is very important.

One way to ensure one's game is indeed as sharp as possible is by participating in offseason showcases – such as the Charlotte Skillz Showcase hosted by Carolina Girls Hoops Report. The site for Friday's festivities was the Talbert Recreation Center in Mooresville which is a few miles due north of Uptown Charlotte.

We at Prep Girls Hoops were on site as well. After placing a spotlight on a few of the veterans that were there, we shift our focus to a few of the younger names that also shined.

Bell wasted no time putting herself on the map in her eighth-grade season at United Faith Christian Academy and has brought her many talents to a Rocky River team that will be competing in 7A this coming season. In her freshman campaign last season with the Ravens, Bell played in 21 games and averaged 11.9 points, three rebounds and 2.3 steals a contest. After spending her time on the AAU circuit with the grassroots juggernaut that is [program_tooltip program_id='713558' first='Lady' last='Attack Elite'], Bell looks ahead to the 2025-26 with a Rocky River team that concluded its final season in the 4A ranks with a 17-9 record.

A seventh grade standout from East Wilkes MS who has spent time with [program_tooltip program_id='831302' first='Wilkes' last='Hoop Group'], Wood turned in an impressive performance at this year's Charlotte Skillz Showcase. Wood proved that she belonged on the same court with more experienced competition by impressing in ball handling drills. She followed that up by doing plenty of work in both midrange and floater drills. Wood is one of those names that may be easy to overlook because she may appear undersized but there are six-foot bigs that do not possess the talent Wood does – which includes effective ball handling with either hand. Wood's team recently wrapped up its September schedule.

At times, the additional travel can be daunting for some arriving at an out-of-state showcase. That was not the case for Combs who was one of two names representing Virginia at this year's Charlotte Skillz Showcase in Mooresville. Combs stands at 5-foot-7 and can be in a team's starting five as either a two guard or at the point. Opposing defenses have to watch out for her when she has the ball in her hands behind the 3-point line as she is likely to take – and make – her try from deep. Combs understands the art of taking care of the ball and knows when to attack and when to pass.

Larkins is a fixture at CGHR events and was on hand at the Talbert Recreation Center once again with her balling shoes on. Talent typically finds their way to Cannon school and Larkins is no exception. This past spring and summer, she wore the uniform of FBC United which participated on the Under Armour circuit. Among the many strengths to Larkins' game is her ability to attack the rim and finish strong. A 3-point shot is also an element to Larkins' offensive arsenal and she also understands how to connect on floaters. The Cougars have been one of the winningest programs in North Carolina – that is sure to continue with Larkins wearing its colors.

Singletary was the lone 2032 on hand at this year's Charlotte Skillz Showcase – yes, he said 2032. Testing one's skills against more experienced competition can be a daunting task for some young players. That is not the case for Singletary, a young Palmetto State prospect with a bright future. She displayed she does not shy away from a challenge. She embraces it. Singletary placed plenty of emphasis on ball handling and expresses confidence with her willingness to call for the ball when she knows she can make a play. That level of confidence is not always seen in players her age, but Singletary is displaying all the signs of being more than simply a typical 2032.
