The Lady Indians of Negreet Chopped Down the Competition

On November 18th, 2025, the Negreet High School Lady Indians, coached by Wendy Thaxton, hosted the Ebarb High School Lady Rebels, coached by Khristian Parrie. Both teams are part of the Sabine Parish school district. This game was captivating from the very beginning, with both teams competing closely and maintaining a near-even score until the final quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Lady Indians from Negreet managed to pull ahead, ultimately securing a hard-fought victory over the Lady Rebels of Ebarb High School with a final score of 54 to 38. Both teams showcased remarkable moments, and I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the incredible athletes who excelled on the court. Although she faced some challenges with her three-point shots in a recent game, going one for seven from beyond the arc, she maintained a positive attitude and continued to play effectively. When her long-range shots weren't falling, she skillfully drove to the basket, drawing a hard foul and successfully converting her free throws. Londyn possesses a physique well-suited for higher levels of play, being both strong and athletic. We eagerly anticipate watching her continued performance in her final season at Negreet High School.     Kaiya Miller Sr., a combo guard for the Lady Indians at Negreet High School, is a talented player. She is known for her excellent shooting ability, capable of scoring from various positions on the court. In last night's game, she particularly excelled from mid-range and beyond the three-point line, successfully making 3 out of 5 attempts from beyond the arc. Notably, Kaiya also made a three-point buzzer-beater at the end of the second quarter before halftime. Furthermore, Kaiya demonstrates strong ball-handling and passing skills, showcasing great court vision by effectively finding her teammates cutting to the basket. Her defensive performance was also commendable, applying good pressure on the ball.     Emma Wilkerson, a senior at Negreet High School, plays center for the Lady Indians. Emma is a tall and physical player who excels at protecting the painted area, consistently forcing turnovers, and executing steals and blocked shots. Her strength allows her to effectively drive to the rim and finish plays with power. Emma also possesses exceptional offensive rebounding abilities, frequently generating second-chance points and put-backs through her diligent efforts and boxing out skills. The majority of Emma's impact and effectiveness stems from her dominant inside game, making her a formidable presence in the paint.     Bailey Caskey, Senior, Number 12, and leader of the Lady Rebels, truly showcased her exceptional skills last night. Despite playing with an injury, she demonstrated her profound talent and handled her responsibilities on the court with remarkable prowess. In my estimation, this performance solidifies Bailey's position as the top point guard in the Sabine district. Her contributions last night were comprehensive, ranging from applying intense ball pressure and securing steals, to driving coast-to-coast, and ultimately dominating the game with her offensive capabilities, gracefully maneuvering to the rim and drawing fouls. As a left-handed player, Bailey impressively drove to the inside and completed strong plays with her right hand, further highlighting her elite ball-handling and passing abilities. Bailey is undoubtedly a player prepared to excel at the next level.     Keely Parie, number 23, a Guard/Forward for the Lady Rebels, delivered an exceptional performance recently. She significantly contributed to her team, playing crucial minutes due to the absence of several starting players. Despite her age, Keely demonstrated veteran-like composure on the court, making vital defensive stops and steals for her teammates, which provided the much-needed impetus for a comeback. Her excellent on-court communication also allowed her to find open spaces, leading to her successfully converting three out of five attempts from beyond the arc. By the end of the game, she had only committed one turnover. She also possesses the ability to handle the ball and drive to the basket when necessary. If she continues to develop her skills, she is poised to become a formidable player in the future. Her performance was truly impressive.
