Union Tournament: The Starting Five
Prep Girls Hoops Missouri spent Saturday watching four games at the 40th Annual Union Ladycats Tournament. Here is our Starting Five from those four games.
<strong>Point Guard: <a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/hannah-nilges/"><a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/hannah-nilges/">Hannah Nilges</a></a> (Jefferson City)</strong>
After going scoreless in the first half of the semifinals against Webster Groves, the 5’10” 2021 erupted for 13 points as she rallied the Jays from a double digit deficit to nearly pulling out the game in the end. She had some nifty drives off the bounce and mixed in a couple of 3-pointers.
<strong>Wing: Alana Hinson (St. Clair)</strong>
The 5’10” 2020 guard was the most impressive 3-point shooter during Saturday’s action, She scored 19 points and knocked down six 3-pointers in the Bulldogs victory over Borgia in the consolation finals. She also had the game winning assist to teammate Mackenzie Lowder for a layup at the buzzer.
<strong>Wing: Ja’mise Bailey (Webster Groves)</strong>
The 5’8” 2021 guard was a two-way standout in the Statewomen’s upset over No. 1 Jefferson City in the semifinals. Bailey scored 13 points as she got buckets on penetrating drives to the basket and high-arching 3-pointers. She also played some excellent defense as she was assigned to guard Jefferson City standout <a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/hannah-nilges/">Hannah Nilges</a>.
<strong>Forward: Eliza Maupin (Webster Groves)</strong>
The 6’3” 2022 forward is arguably the top collegiate prospect in the tournament. She scored 14 points in the upset win over Jefferson City while providing defense and shot blocking in the lane. She has length and athleticism plus she runs up and down the court with elegance. Her overall skill set is also very solid.
<strong>Forward: <a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/mallory-shetley/"><a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/mallory-shetley/">Mallory Shetley</a></a> (Sullivan)</strong>
The 6’0 2020 forward was dominant in leading the Eagles to a victory over Union in the semifinals. She scored a game-High 20 points as she controlled the paint at both ends of the court. Her footwork was excellent and she scored with relative ease around the bucket.
