Game Report: Syracuse at Bingham

This was a great matchup, as Syracuse has edged out the Miners by a small margin in past years, but they've found a way. On paper, these are two very different teams: Syracuse returns with a lot of experience and talent, while the Miners lack experience and have very young talent. First Half   What quickly stood out was the size of Syracuse as Olivia Sorensen made her presence felt and that allowed a player like [player_tooltip player_id='796823' first='Maylee' last='Anderson'] to find spots and opportunities to create. With great sets and opportunities, Syracuse found ways to hurt Bingham.   In the 2nd quarter, Bingham made a few adjustments and had a spark from [player_tooltip player_id='796801' first='Hannah' last='Harmon'], a defensive menace who was chasing players all over the floor. On offense, the Miners got a spark from Sophomore guard [player_tooltip player_id='875180' first='Lanie' last='Smith'], who ended up with 17 points.   Second Half   In the second half, it was a back-and-forth affair as Bingham and Syracuse traded leads. [player_tooltip player_id='1350619' first='Karsyn' last='Visser'] had some positive moments, but [player_tooltip player_id='796823' first='Maylee' last='Anderson'] was nearly unstoppable, consistently finding ways to score in the paint. Bingham received a late spark from [player_tooltip player_id='875185' first='Avery' last='Aiono'], who recorded a steal and a foul. Syracuse then switched to a zone defense, which forced Bingham's shooters to step up, and [player_tooltip player_id='796474' first='Evalyn' last='Roberts'] responded with a clutch three-pointer that proved to be the game-winning shot, as the Miners secured a victory over the experienced Syracuse team.   Impressive Play   [player_tooltip player_id='796823' first='Maylee' last='Anderson'], Syracuse   The 2026 PG only hit one three-pointer, which is rare for her, but she took what the defense gave her and was clutch in the midrange. Anderson is a player who can get you a bucket, and that's what makes her enticing at the next level.   [player_tooltip player_id='875180' first='Lanie' last='Smith'], Bingham   Smith was lightning in a bottle off the bench. First play in she takes it off the dribble and gets a bucket and a foul. Beyond the arc, she was 4-8 and ended with 17 points. She has a lot of upside as a player with a shooting foundation that will only get better in time. She was getting deflections and steals and was just making life hard for whoever she was defending. Late in the game, she had a strong rip and drive baseline, and she found her post player for an easy bucket. She rebounds and runs the floor. McBride has next-level length and, as a 4 at the next level, she has a high ceiling.
