Creston High School (2-0) started off the week by heading to Winterset High School for a battle with the 0-1 Huskies. In this contest, the Huskies dominated from the start, jumping out to a fast lead in the first half and never looking back again. One of the top players for this group was SG - [player_tooltip player_id='863285' first='Makenna' last='Olson']. Olson might only be 5'6 but she plays with high energy, smarts, and a natural shooting ability from deep with a quick trigger off the catch. Olson finished things up by scoring 31 points (11 of 26) and dishing out 8 assists on the evening to lead her crew to victory when everything was said and done. It became very obvious during this that Olson is a key to this team's success. If she can keep the efficient part of things up while assisting others, they should be in for an eventful Winter.

[player_tooltip player_id='832198' first='Macy' last='Meyer'] handled business on Tuesday as DCG moved to 3-0 to start off their Winter season in the 4A Class. The Mustangs are #1 in their Class for a reason. This is an equipped team that returns basically every key prospect from last Winter. They're leader at the SG or Scoring Guard position being Meyer. Meyer registered 20 points on 6-15 shooting to lead the Mustangs and their defense did the rest. If you have been watching the DSM area the past few years you know that Meyer is someone that can score at every offensive level. She can shoot it off the catch, explode off the drive, or finish with something in the mid-range. She has some nights where she is unconscious and can't miss. When that happens, it's a pretty fun to watch. All in all, this won't be the best performance by Meyer this season but it's still one to note.

26 Points (11/24), 9 Rebounds, 4 Assists, & 8 Steals. This was the stat line that [player_tooltip player_id='1143263' first='Lilee' last='Boriskey'] posted in her Viking's team victory on Tuesday on the road. Boriskey was a pending force on both sides of the floor in the post and in-between the blocks. She held her own, doing her work early on down the floor, staying consistent with her effort level while rebounding on both offense and defense. She followed that up by making several attempts near the hoop, keeping all of her shots near the bucket in one way or another. Boriskey should be able to post another stat line or two like this later on during the year. Like I said, her effort level is tough to match and when you pair that with respectable motor, it can be hard to stop unless you have some real size to match.

[player_tooltip player_id='1093411' first='Mallory' last='McElmeel'] is a name to note for Monticello as we move into the thick of our 2025-2026 high school season. McElmeel, a 5'5 SG, understand what she does well. She attacks the glass strategically on both ends while being a smart shot taker and maker. In this specific event, McElmeel finished with a team high 17 points (8/11), a team high 10 rebounds, along with a few assists and a steal. The best part about this performance was the way it brought their team together. This is a group that likes to press in the full court, leading to a lot of transition buckets. We saw that sometimes here but McElmeel also got to the hoop off the dribble, mixing up her defender with a simple cross over here and there. It looks like Monticello is going to have another solid Winter. If they play their cards right and come prepared like usual, they are going to win some games against some good programs over the next few months.

CR - Prairie had a tough task to kick off this week with having to matchup against last year's 3A State Champs - Mount Vernon High School. Prairie got the job done and in the end, their anchor did her part, that being PF/SF - [player_tooltip player_id='502092' first='Brynlie' last='Hadenfeldt']. Hadenfeldt holds down the middle of the floor primary and that's exactly what she did in this one. She ended up controlling everything going on around her, finishing the game with a team high 18 points (6/13) and 9 rebounds. The second number in that equation is what helped the Hawks pull out this W in the end. It was a 1 point game going into halftime but in the third quarter, Prairie came out with a 19-10 run to take things over going into the fourth. From there, the rest was history.
