In order to repeat as state champs, Douglass needed someone to replace NeKiyah Thompson. That someone turned out to be Kayla Sesberry. After being steady all season, Sesberry saved possibly her best game of the season for last as she powered the Lady Astros with 25 points (10-17 FG), 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 4 steals. Sesberry is small but feisty and possesses a quick first step. She can finish all the way at the rim or settle for mid-range pull-ups. Defensively, her active hands make her tough to get past. She’s earned some JUCO offers lately and deserves even more attention after her memorable championship game performance. Stock up.
2020 5-7 G Ja’Khyla Johnson – Southwest-Macon
Holding recent offers from Tuskegee and Indian River State College, Johnson bounced back from her subpar Final 4 performance. An athletic guard with a defensive mindset, Johnson posted 14 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 6 steals and 1 block. Johnson has great lateral quickness and can cover a ton of ground in the press. She has an aggressive nature to her game. Johnson is a playmaker but can sometimes get a little out of control and turn the ball over. She has good handles against pressure but can slip her hand under the ball and get calmed for palming.
2020 6-0 C Avrie Grayer – Southwest-Macon
Avrie Grayer wasn’t featured much in the title game but she’s a nice post player that could play at the D-II level. Grayer is big and physical but has some nice skill as well. She’s a reliable passer out of the high post and has a nice turnaround jumper from the foul line. She battles on the boards and can alter shots inside.
2021 5-5 CG Kaila Rougier Kaila Rougier 5'5" | CG Beach | 2021 State GA – Beach
Big game comes in a little package. Kaila Rougier Kaila Rougier 5'5" | CG Beach | 2021 State GA is a legit prospect out of Savanah. She has a D-I level package in her small frame. The lefty is sharp with the ball and creates her own offense using the dribble. She has a pretty stroke that she can get off using step backs. Even though her height may scare off some schools, she is strong enough to finish in traffic and mix it up all over the floor. Rougier finished with 20 points and 8 rebounds. If you think her size is a hindrance, she shot 6-8 from inside the arc and 5-6 from the line. She’s a player.
2022 5-6 CG Kaleigh Addie Kaleigh Addie 5'7" | PG Greater Atlanta Christian School | 2022 State #66 Nation GA – GAC
If they haven’t already, expect D-I schools to start popping offers for the state champion. Kaleigh Addie Kaleigh Addie 5'7" | PG Greater Atlanta Christian School | 2022 State #66 Nation GA took over in the fourth quarter, scoring 12 of her game-high 28 points to race past Beach 54-44. The 1,000-point scorer was efficient, shooting 10-16 from the field, 2-2 from three and 6-10 from the line. Beach made a push in the third quarter to take the lead after face-guarding Addie and holding her to one shot attempt in the quarter but the dam broke in the fourth as Addie ignited a personal 8-0 run to swing momentum into GAC’s corner for good – doing it all while playing with four fouls. Addie is a shifty ball handler that is tough to corral. She is so good at creating her own offense and as she displayed on Thursday, can take over games in the blink of an eye. Addie will be a nationally known name sooner rather than later.
