Cedric Cobb | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Samuels-Pyles was aggressive and physical, getting downhill. She showed a strong frame and confidence, attacking the rim off the dribble. Tay has an advanced offensive game for someone who is not yet in high school.

Tay was one of the more intriguing young prospects at the event, showing a strong overall floor game and excellent positional versatility. The 8th grader has very good size for her class and understands how to use it effectively on both ends of the floor. She contributed in multiple areas, impacting the game through rebounding, defensive activity, and smart offensive decision-making. What stood out most about Samuels was her ability to affect the game beyond scoring. She played within the system, made smart reads, and showed the willingness to do the little things that contribute to winning.

My first live look at the eighth-grade phenom, and she did not disappoint. Samuels-Pyles showed strong composure and a polished skill set—beating defenders off the dribble and confidently stepping back to knock down threes. She’s clearly a name to know and a future force in the state.

The eighth-grade sensation turned heads all weekend. Samuels played with confidence and composure well beyond her years, showing dynamic guard skills and a natural feel for the game. She was impactful on both ends and made it clear that she’s a problem on the national scale sooner rather than later. Her ceiling is exceptionally high.
