How D1 Could Have Played Out – The Quarterfinals

How D1 Could Have Played Out – The Quarterfinals

The MHSAA has officially called off and canceled high school winter and spring sports due to the health issues the world is facing. Now that the basketball games are officially over, I’ll look at what might have been if the playoffs had been able to be finished. The Division 1 field was talented and extremely deep this season. I’ll take a look at what I think would have happened in the quarterfinals. Check out how we got to the quarterfinals in our look at the hypothetical results of the regional championships: How D1 Could Have Played Out – The Regional Championships
Detroit Renaissance vs. Macomb Dakota
Prediction: Detroit Renaissance Detroit Renaissance wins a hard fought game against a disciplined Macomb Dakota squad. Their depth and high pressure D carries them to the win. Most Valuable Player: [player_tooltip player_id="27997" first="Nika" last="Dorsey"] (2021, SF, Detroit Renaissance) With Dorsey and Wheeler, Detroit Renaissance may have the best combination of junior forwards in the state. Dorsey uses her slick athleticism and ball skills on offense, and her hounding defense to be a key factor in the win.
East Grand Rapids vs. East Lansing
Prediction: East Lansing East Lansing is a team full of experienced veterans. They prevail over a talented young East Grand Rapids team. Most Valuable Player: [player_tooltip player_id="23749" first="Aaliyah" last="Nye"] (2020, SF, East Lansing) Nye is a playmaking senior that has the ability to put her team on her back.
Saline vs. Temperance Bedford
Prediction: Saline This is a bit of a surprise matchup featuring 2 high quality SEC Red foes that have seen plenty of each other already. Honestly, this game is tough to call and probably a coin flip. Saline lets their star carry them and [player_tooltip player_id="126300" first="Steffi" last="Bentley"] handle business in the paint. Most Valuable Player: [player_tooltip player_id="27971" first="Ella" last="Stemmer"] (2021, G/F, Saline) I can’t write enough about Stemmer. There was no more impressive player in the state as the season neared its ending. She’s a true 3 level scorer that can shoot and attack of the bounce.
Midland Dow vs. Hartland
Prediction: Hartland I’m picking Hartland, but everyone knows that if Midland Dow gets hot from deep, it’s anybody’s game. Hartland seems to have an "it" factor that points to them being a very special team. Most Valuable Player: [player_tooltip player_id="147739" first="Amanda" last="Roach"] (2021, G, Hartland) Roach has a well rounded game. She’s an excellent shooter, but can handle and dish as well. Roach has a high basketball IQ as well. She’s a plus perimeter defender which Hartland would need against Dow.
