2020 Recruiting Update

The virus that ended the careers of so many Oklahoma seniors so unceremoniously with the cancellation of the state tournament has not stopped college coaches from working the phones. Several Oklahoma class of 2020 players have committed in recent months. Meanwhile, some very good players in the class of 2020 are still uncommitted and possibly just one phone call away for college coaches. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="30483" first="Wyvette" last="Mayberry"] | 6-0 PG | Booker T. Washington | @wywyy12</strong> Mayberry recently decommitted from Oral Roberts where she had been committed for quite a while. It was not long before she committed to UT-Arlington to play for head coach Krista Gerlich and her up and coming squad; a squad that his past season featured four Oklahoma players, two from the Tulsa area where Mayberry played her high school ball. The Mavericks finished 21-11 this past season with a stellar 14-4 conference record. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="53118" first="Cymirah" last="Williams"] | 5-11 F | Millwood </strong> Our No. 44-ranked player in the class of 2020 recently committed to Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kansas. Williams joins a Butler CC squad that is a perennial tournament team under head coach Mike Helmer. The Grizzlies finished 25-8 this past season and were on their way to the NJCAA tournament again. Butler also has a history of sending very good players to four-year universities. Most recently, 6-1 sophomore center Dana Johnson signed with Pittsburg State. The Grizzlies had three players from Oklahoma on last year’s outstanding team. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="151415" first="Zoey" last="Whiteley"] | 5-8 PG | Fort Gibson | @zoeywhiteley3</strong> Whiteley was the No.71 ranked player in a stacked 2020 class. She recently signed with Rogers State in Claremore, Oklahoma. Rogers State had a very tough first season in the MIAA and finished with a 4-24 record. Head coach Kyle Bent faced a challenging season with a team that was half underclassmen. Whiteley will be just the second Oklahoman on the Hillcats squad after the graduation of Broken Arrow’s Darian Jackson. Bent is an outstanding coach who went 95-38 in four seasons at Martin Methodist College in Pulaski, Tennessee. Bent is entering his third year as the Hillcats head man in charge. <strong>T.T. Mitchell | 5-2 PG | East Central | @TT_mitchell2020</strong> Mitchell remains unsigned as our No.49-ranked player in the class of 2020. Mitchell has a seemingly unlimited range and drains the three at a very high rate. T.T. is a very tough player who plays strong defense and loves to drive hard to the hoop, often initiating contact and getting to the line. Mitchell plays a lot of basketball on the grassroots level and the experience shows in her defense and ability to read the play. T.T. will be a major asset to whichever university is lucky enough to have her join. <strong style="font-size: 1rem">[player_tooltip player_id="53116" first="Kailee" last="Choice"] | 5-3 F | Tulsa Union | @kaileechoice</strong><strong></strong> Choice has tremendous speed and she uses it well. She sits back, diagnoses the play and then sprints to the passing lane for the steal. If she is on the fast break, there is absolutely no chance of catching her. She also finishes her fast breaks consistently. Choice currently holds offers from Schreiner University and Barclay College. Union High's Darian Carr and East Central's Breonna Blakely have already committed to the Bears and Choice could soon make that three Tulsa recruits to join Marcus Mitchell's squad.
