Class of 2022: Sleeper Prospects

With the Class of 2022 Rankings being updated last week, I wanted to take a closer look at a few prospects that I would consider ’Sleepers’ in this class. Here are some Sophomores that I believe will receive more attention and recognition over the next few months: <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="160854" first="Mira" last="Schwanke"], 5’10” Guard, Fenwick</strong> Mira is a lengthy, off-the-ball Guard who played a key role in helping Fenwick advance to the 3A Super Sectionals this season. Offensively, she took her three-point shooting to another level this year, forcing opposing teams to pay closer attention when she had the ball. Defensively, Schwanke can guard multiple spots with her height and athleticism and she uses her long arms to constantly bother opposing ball handlers. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="124878" first="Torrie" last="Kortan"], 5’7” Guard, St. Charles East</strong> Kortan is a high-IQ Combo Guard who can play both on or off the ball. She is very smooth with the ball and uses good court vision to determine the smart play. Her jump shot from three and mid-range is something she can hit off the bounce or spot up. Torrie also plays exceptional on-ball defense, consistently giving opposing PG’s issues. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="124877" first="Andie" last="Will"], 5’8” Guard, Prospect</strong> Andie is a quick and physical Point Guard who does a nice job attacking the lane off the bounce. She can play off the ball, but she really does a nice job leading an offense and scoring from the Point position. She has a good jumper off the bounce and knows how to use her body to maneuver around defenders in the lane. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="124870" first="Claire" last="Hyde"], 5’6” Guard, Wheaton North</strong> Claire is another Point Guard who can have success scoring the ball, using her strength to get in the lane and finish in traffic. She is a rock-solid ball handler with great court vision and does a nice job of consistently making the correct play. Hyde is also a plus shooter from beyond the three-point line. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="138870" first="Mikayla" last="Huffine"], 5’3” Guard, Rockford Lutheran</strong> Huffine is an incredibly electric ball handler who can score from anywhere on the floor. She’s got a tight handle on the ball and is one of the quicker guards around. Mikayla has deep range from three, but how she gets in the lane and finds creative ways to score with either hand is so impressive. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="124865" first="Angelina" last="Giordano"], 5’9” Guard, Montini</strong> A strong off-ball guard from Montini, Giordano assumed her role nicely after finding herself in the starting lineup her Sophomore season. She has a good-looking shot from deep and you can trust her as a ball handler. Angelina uses her strength and size well defensively, finding success against taller Guards and even a good amount of post players. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="124867" first="Elise" last="Heneghan"], 6’0” Forward, Fenwick</strong> Elise is a very skilled Forward who will create match up problems with her ability to stretch the floor and hit shots from outside. She is very skilled both out on the perimeter and in the post with her athleticism and ball handling. Heneghan has a nice set of post moves that set her up for quality looks at the rim. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="78800" first="Brooke" last="Blumenfeld"], 6’0” Forward, Glenbrook North</strong> I call Brooke a Forward here, but she can just as easily play an off-ball Guard spot with her impressive skill set. She is very strong and uses her length to her advantage offensively and defensively. She’s got a nice looking shot, but she thrives at attacking the paint and using that strength to draw fouls and finish at the hoop.
