We will be using the region’s from last season as they were constructed. Obviously, these regions will change into next season but for these stories it was the easiest way to divide players and teams as equally as possible. We will be writing a series of four stories for each region in the state and the categories are as follows: 2023’s to put on Your Radar, 2022’s who can Breakout, and 2021’s Who Should be Valued by Colleges. We will continue to go through each region and aim to hit as many players as we can that we haven’t talked about previously. Here are five 2021’s who should elevate their stock this upcoming high school season.
Kaelan Curley

– 5’9 SF – Newman Catholic
Curley was the leading scorer for Newman Catholic last season and she will take her game to new heights this upcoming year. She scored 13.3 points a game last season and grabbed 5.3 rebounds a contest showing her versatility from the wing. Curley is going to be a force next season and I think she starts to garner some small college interest.
Kaylyn Meyers

Bishop Garrigan | 2021
State
IA
– 5’9 SF – Bishop Garrigan
Meyers is much better than her stats would indicate as she scored 8.7 points a game and added in 2.3 assists per game last year. Meyers is a solid versatile wing who can play both on the ball and as a slasher on the wing. She is a very talented player who is going to start garnering some scholarship level interest if she isn’t already.
Rylee McLean – 5’11 PF – North Tama
McLean was one of the top interior players in this region last season. Even though North Tama struggled this past year McLean was one of the top players in the area. She’s physical with the ball in her hands and she’s also a solid rebounder. I think if McLean continues to improve on her shooting ability away from the basket there are many schools that would be interested in her.
Saari Kuehl – 5’11 SF – Gladbrook-Reinbeck
Kuehl scored 10.0 points a game last year for Gladbrook-Reinbeck and was a great contributor. She is a versatile player who grabbed 8.0 rebounds a game last year and should see an increase in both scoring and rebounding next year. Kuehl is a player who can shoot the ball and will be much better with offensive flow around her
Alyssa Hames

Hames

AGWSR | 2021
State
IA
– 5’10 SF – AGWSR
Hames is a versatile guard who can handle the ball and get to the rim to score. She has a really good motor and should start to draw small college interest in the next season. She plays with passion that a lot of coaches like to see. She’ll need to improve her shooting ability if she’s going to play with the ball in her hands at the next level but she should find herself on a college court in the future.
