2022 Stock Risers – Southeast Minnesota

2022 Stock Risers – Southeast Minnesota

Classifying [player_tooltip player_id="109125" first="CJ" last="Adamson"] as a stock riser is a little misleading. After all, the Rochester Lourdes star has always been one of the premier players in the Prep Girls Hoops class of 2022. If I’m being honest, though, CJ wasn’t quite herself in the summer of 2019. Playing up a year for North Tartan 2021 EYBL, her playing time appeared to decline from the previous summer due to some unsettling roster changes, and I think that may have hurt her confidence a little bit. Fast forward to the high school season, however, and Adamson played like the CJ of old. In other words she played really, really well. That’s why she leads our video evaluations today of 2022 Stock Risers from the Southeast Minnesota region. [player_tooltip player_id="109125" first="CJ" last="Adamson"] – Rochester Lourdes, North Tartan 2022 EYBL (#25) Crafty. That is my favorite word to describe CJ. She is a wiry, athletic combo guard who now stands about 5’10 in shoes. She has fast feet, superior handles and can shoot the ball from distance with a quick release, smooth delivery and consistent execution. Adamson knows how to control the pace and can change speeds quickly and with precision. She has great vision, is an excellent passer and her basketball IQ is right up there. I just love CJ’s versatility and willingness to play whatever role is asked of her. Defensively she is quick and clever and always ready to pounce. With [player_tooltip player_id="1917" first="Alyssa" last="Ustby"] moving on to North Carolina, Lourdes will be a lot more reliant on Adamson going forward. I’d say there is a very good chance she will live up to expectations and more. Adamson returns to grade level this summer with North Tartan 2022 EYBL. Watch the video [player_tooltip player_id="109159" first="Malia" last="Nelson"] – Dover-Eyota, Southern Minnesota Fury (#87) At 5’10, with a big frame and nose for the basketball, Malia is a versatile all-around performer. I have always been impressed with her defense. Watch the video and you will see why. She is focused, tenacious and has enough length to get blocks and deflections on a regular basis. She is also a strong rebounder who knows how to use her physical tools to box out, claim space, secure the ball and make her next move. Nelson has no shortage of offensive ability, either. She has been a consistent scorer at Dover-Eyota for three years now, averaging about a dozen points per game. The combo guard can get to the rim, has a variety of nice options in the paint, and can shoot the three consistently. Malia is a no-nonsense performer who keeps things simple to achieve maximum effectiveness. She is the sister of former Denver University standout Madison Nelson. Watch the video [player_tooltip player_id="109185" first="Rylie" last="Schnell"] – Byron, Air Minnesota (#97) It’s easy to measure height. Measuring heart is a little more challenging. At 5’10, Schnell is certainly tall enough to be an effective guard. Perhaps more importantly she has heart, grit, desire and a strong work ethic in large quantities. In short, it is a package of intangibles that make a player the best they can possibly be. Oh, there’s also a 4.0 GPA on Schnell’s resume which makes her all the more attractive as a college prospect. That intelligence definitely carries over onto the court where the wiry combo guard methodically navigates her way on offense to make good decisions and quality passes, with her primary target being 6’4 post [player_tooltip player_id="109753" first="Sacia" last="Vanderpool"], who committed last week to Wisconsin. Schnell isn’t going to blow past too many defenders one-on-one, but she is still going to outfox them to get by and make it to the basket. Schnell’s shooting is much-improved and there is no shortage of range there. Riley has length, a solid skill set and an always-get-better mentality that will continue to serve her well. Watch the video [player_tooltip player_id="109176" first="Emma" last="Dudycha"] – Austin, Southern Minnesota Fury (#101) Evaluating twins is so challenging, and it wasn’t until about a year ago when I could reliably identify the differences between Emma and her twin [player_tooltip player_id="57959" first="Hope" last="Dudycha"]. Now it has become more clear, and if I had to boil the differences down to their most simple form it would be this: Hope is the ball-handler and distributor, Emma is the shooter. OK, that’s way too simple because they are both multi-faceted guards with terrific skills but that at least gives us somewhere to begin. Make no mistake, though, because Emma can shoot it from just about anywhere with quality form and plenty of range beyond the three-point line. The 5’5 sophomore can also get to the rim, thanks to quick feet and the ability to take hard contact and successfully finesse the ball into the hole. Emma clearly loves to play the game at a high tempo and is really good in transition. Like pretty much everyone on the Austin roster, she is also a quality defender who knows how to make life difficult for opposing ball-handlers. Bonus: Emma has a 3.8 GPA. Watch the video [player_tooltip player_id="109180" first="Bobbie" last="Bruns"] – Blooming Prairie, Southern Minnesota Fury (#110) Bobbie is a 5’9 point guard with impossibly long strides, excellent ball handling skills and all of the attention to detail that you would expect from the daughter of a high school coach. Bobbie is an intelligent player who sees what is happening on the floor and takes full advantage of the available opportunities. Bobbie doesn’t rush things, but rather waits for the right moment to attack. She has good vision, moves the ball well and is incredibly reliable. She is also offensively gifted. Long and athletic, when Bruns gets up a full head of steam in transition there are very few small-school defenders who can have anything to say about it. She needs two steps where most players need three. Combine that with the ability to change speeds in a heartbeat and you have a potent weapon. Bruns averaged about 14 ppg give or take, and we have seen her slash and score just as effectively in AAU ball with the Southern Minnesota Fury. She is also a star in the classroom with a 4.029 GPA. Watch the video
