Another Week of Hampton Roads Girls basketball has come and went. The playoff picture is coming into focus, and the "stars" are shining for their teams as expected. Yet while the stars are meeting and in some cases exceeding expectations, the push to the playoffs always generates some pleasant suprises on each team.

Here are a few players who made their presence felt this week. Reinforcing that the playoff push belongs not just to the stars, but to those ready to seize their moment.

Virginia State commit Estrada is widely recognized as her team's premier defender. Often drawing the unenviable assignment of guarding the opposing team's top scorer. However, to focus solely on her defensive prowess would be a disservice to the completeness of her game.

Yes, she has the ability to pick your pocket and disrupt offensive rhythm with relentless pressure and instincts. But offensively, Estrada operates with the calm precision of an assassin. She attacks the basket with confidence, and finishes through contact. While possessing the range to light you up from beyond the arc.

Her versatility on both ends of the floor creates headaches for opposing coaches, forcing adjustments that rarely solve the problem entirely. Simply put, Estrada isn't just a defensive stopper. She's a two-way impact player capable of shifting the momentum of a game at any moment.

Mya is a competitor, plain and simple. The starting point guard for a 20–1 Grafton squad, she serves as the engine that keeps everything moving. Deadly from beyond the arc, Mya's high basketball IQ forces defenders to respect her shooting range. Then when opponents overcommit on closeouts, she wastes no time attacking with a quick first step.

Once in the lane, she becomes even more dangerous. With the capability of finishing through traffic, or using her court vision to create scoring opportunities for teammates. Her ability to balance scoring and facilitation makes her the ultimate pace-setter for Grafton's offense.

If the Grafton offense were a racecar, Mya would undoubtedly be the driver, making the decisions that keep the team in rhythm. With the graduation of senior Taylor Ragland on the horizon. It is expected that her current averages of 15 points and 5 assists per game will climb as her role continues to expand.

A dangerous shooter hiding in plain sight. Musimbi has carved out a vital role on a Norfolk Christian roster headlined by a 6'9" center and two college-bound guards. While opposing defenses naturally focus their attention elsewhere, sleeping on Musimbi often results in a rude awakening.

With a quick release, soft shooting touch, and the ability to create her own. She punishes defensive lapses with efficiency and confidence. Her spacing and scoring threat force defenses to stretch beyond their comfort zone, creating matchup dilemmas that can quickly swing momentum.

Musimbi is the type of player who thrives when underestimated. Then when defenses are foolish enough not to respect her game, the consequences usually show up on the scoreboard.

Long, lean, and left-handed, the 6'1" Scruggs brings a versatile skill set that continues to grow within Grassfield's system. Primarily a traditional post presence, she shows the ability to score inside while also possessing the mobility to attack from the wing when matched against slower defenders. Her length allows her to finish around the rim and create angles that make her difficult to contest.

Defensively, Scruggs provides significant value with her size, activity level, and ability to close space quickly. She alters shots at the rim, contests effectively on the perimeter, and uses her reach to disrupt passing lanes. Her defensive instincts and positional versatility give coaches flexibility when managing matchups.

With the upcoming graduation of Grassfield's two leading scorers, Scruggs is positioned for an expanded offensive role. As her confidence and usage continue to increase, expect her production to rise as she steps into a larger leadership presence heading into her senior season.

[player_tooltip player_id='731297' first='Imani' last='Johnson'], an Apprentice School commit, operates as a true floor general for Salem. A deceptively quick and highly intelligent guard whose impact extends well beyond the stat sheet. With a strong understanding of both offensive and defensive structure. She not only executes her role within the system but actively communicates and organizes teammates, ensuring everyone is in the right position at the right time.

A pass-first guard by nature. Johnson plays with excellent timing and precision, consistently delivering the ball where teammates are most effective. Her decision-making and court awareness allow Salem's offense to flow smoothly, and she demonstrates a clear ability to control tempo and manage possessions.

Despite her guard position, Johnson shows a willingness to do the physical work inside. She will battle for rebounds and create disruptions against opposing post players. Her anticipation and defensive instincts make her particularly dangerous when opponents bring the ball down low, often turning routine rebounds into chaos.

Johnson's combination of leadership, IQ, and toughness makes her an essential piece to Salem's success. As well as a steady presence capable of influencing the game on both ends of the floor.
