New Hanover County features a ton of key contributors that’ll return next year to help improve their respective programs. Among those returning players is the top prospect in North Carolina girls high school basketball who most recently made her college decision. 910 basketball has been a consistent winner as an area code and this county is looking to help sustain the winning tradition. Here is part one of the top returning players to lookout for in New Hanover County during the 2020-21 season. Icess Tresvik (Hoggard guard, 2021) Tresvik had an excellent 2019-20 season for the Hoggard Vikings and will be a key piece returning next year. The rising senior guard put up 13 points, five rebounds, and four steals per contest for a team that finished with a 21-6 overall record. In a tough Mideastern 3-A/4-A conference, the Vikings return their top three scorers so expect Hoggard to be in the top two or three in the end of the season standings. [player_tooltip player_id="116900" first="Andrehya" last="Shuford"] (New Hanover guard, 2022) Shuford is one of the top players in not just New Hanover County, but in the entire state of North Carolina. The rising junior guard is ranked #17 in the Prep Girls Hoops NC 2022 rankings and had a big season for the Wildcats. She averaged just over 19 points per contest and led New Hanover to the 3-A state playoffs despite the Wildcats only winning eight games. That number should increase with the return of Shuford and other key contributors to the lineup. [player_tooltip player_id="116870" first="Saniya" last="Rivers"] (Ashley guard, 2021) People are running out of superlatives to describe [player_tooltip player_id="116870" first="Saniya" last="Rivers"] and rightfully so. The number one prospect in the PGH NC 2021 rankings was named Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of North Carolina this past season. In addition, she most recently committed to play for coach Dawn Staley and the South Carolina Gamecocks. Rivers finished this past season averaging 25 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, six steals, and two blocks per game. Her stellar play helped Ashley win 25 games and reach the fourth round of the 4-A state playoffs. The Eagles should be in state championship contention once again and the accolade should continue to pour in for this special talent in Wilmington.
