As we head into a typical summer, players start to compete on a national stage and look to get recruited by coaches from all over the country. In the 2021 class, this would be their last run on the club basketball circuit and many are still hoping for some semblance of a club season to return soon. The players listed below are no question the top guards in a deep class who can, and will, play at the collegiate level. Let’s take a look at some of the top guards in the class of 2021. [caption id="attachment_151292" align="alignright" width="251"] [player_tooltip player_id="95123" first="Payton" last="Muma"][/caption][player_tooltip player_id="95123" first="Payton" last="Muma"] (Highlands Ranch) Muma is a great floor general, leading the way for Highlands Ranch. She has great pace to her game and is an unselfish player. Muma averaged 15.2 points per game on 156-for-383 (41 percent) shooting from the field in 2019-20. She has made tremendous stride and is able to score from anywhere on the floor, shooting well in the midrange and attacking the rim. Committed to Gonzaga University, Muma loves to step up in big moments for her team. Along with her points per game, she also averaged 4.1 assist per game, and 3.1 steals per game. [caption id="attachment_132636" align="alignleft" width="254"] [player_tooltip player_id="95124" first="Kindyll" last="Wetta"][/caption][player_tooltip player_id="95124" first="Kindyll" last="Wetta"] (Valor Christian) Wetta has great size and physicality for a 5-foot-9 guard and puts out great effort at both ends of the floor, rebounding well for a perimeter player. Wetta does well pushing pace and getting to the rim relentlessly, creating open shots for her teammates. In 2019-20, Valor Christian’s backcourt leader averaged 13.2 points per game and shot 134 for 275 (49 percent) from the field. Being as efficient as she is creates opportunities for her teammates, as she averaged 4.6 assists per game during her junior season. Wetta also averaged 4.9 rebounds and 4.3 steals per game. Committed to the University of Colorado in Boulder, she will certainly add value to the Buffs. [caption id="attachment_145639" align="alignright" width="245"] [player_tooltip player_id="95126" first="Sydney" last="Bevington"][/caption][player_tooltip player_id="95126" first="Sydney" last="Bevington"] Ralston Valley) Bevington can score the ball in variety of ways, whether that be in the post with her ability to use her height in length creating a mismatch or driving to the basket off the dribble. Standing at 6-foot-1, has a good handle on the ball for a taller player and averaged 16.1 points per game on 138-for-312 (44 percent) shooting from the field in 2019-20. Bevington also averaged 9.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists throughout her junior season and is close to joining the 1,000-point club with 938 points in her prep career to date. [caption id="attachment_95242" align="alignright" width="307"] [player_tooltip player_id="95125" first="Avery" last="VanSickle"][/caption][player_tooltip player_id="95125" first="Avery" last="VanSickle"] (Regis Jesuit) VanSickle is a decorated scorer with her ability to shoot the ball off the catch, off the dribble, and in transition. She is one of the top shooters in Colorado making her a tough guard, evidenced by her average of 16.5 points per game on 147-for-355 (41 percent) shooting from the field as a junior. She does well against pressure and is not afraid of the big-time games. VanSickle also averaged 3.7 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.1 steals per game. She has a high basketball IQ and shows the ability to make the smart reads with the ball. Already in the 1,000-point club with 1,016 career points, VanSickle is committed to the University of Washington. [caption id="attachment_132634" align="alignleft" width="245"] [player_tooltip player_id="95129" first="Jenna" last="Siebert"][/caption][player_tooltip player_id="95129" first="Jenna" last="Siebert"] (Valor Christian) Siebert creates a lot of possessions for her team with her high motor and willingness to get on the floor for loose balls. Siebert shows the ability to attack the rim relentless, opening up outside shots for her teammates. She can also stretch out teams with her ability to shoot from the outside. Siebert went 48 for 114 (42 percent) from behind the arc in 2019-20, and averaged 9.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.0 steals per game. Siebert also gets her work done efficiently, shooting 90-for-211 (43 percent) from the field as a junior.
