Continue ReadingBy the time we get to the final AAU summer for any particular class of college prospects things have pretty much sorted themselves out and we have a good handle on where players fit. That doesn’t mean it’s too late to keep improving. That’s exactly what the players described herein have done as we re-rank the class of 2021 once again. There hasn’t been a ton of debate over the past couple of years as to which of the incoming seniors is number 1 in the class – Adalia McKenzie Adalia McKenzie 5'10" | CG Park Center | 2021 State #39 Nation MN of Park Center has had a solid hold on the top spot – but there was a lot of conversation this time around.
Why? Because Sophie Hart Sophie Hart 6'4" | C Farmington | 2021 State #44 Nation MN of Farmington and Fury 2021 UAA continues to get better, continues to add to an already impressive list of high major offers and is coming off an outstanding junior year during which she led her team all the way to the precipice of a state championship. If you are looking for a big big, there is no debating who’s the best one in Minnesota. It’s the 6-4 giant Hart. If you are looking for pure talent and athleticism then McKenzie is your girl.
In the end, after much conversation, McKenzie held on to the #1 position. Unfortunately we won’t have the privilege of watching her play one final summer of AAU basketball. Adalia, who recently made a surprise commitment to the University of Illinois, suffered a broken foot this week and we’re told it is unlikely she will play again until high school ball resumes in November.
Hart, meanwhile, slipped past Jenna Johnson Jenna Johnson 6'2" | PF Wayzata | 2021 State #52 Nation MN of Wayzata and into the #2 position in the class. Johnson, too, is done with AAU after suffering a torn ACL during the high school season. That’s a double blow to the North Tartan 2021 EYBL lineup which is still formidable but not quite as potent.
Here’s a rundown on the highlights of this spring rankings update.
