Great Lakes Region Finals: 16U Floor Spacing Standouts

In today's game, floor spacing is one of the most valuable traits a player can provide. Defenses are forced to make difficult decisions when shooters can consistently knock down shots, move without the ball, and stretch the floor from multiple spots on the court. During the spring evaluation period, I had the opportunity to watch several talented 16U prospects who excel in those areas. These players not only create offense for themselves, but they also open driving lanes, create opportunities for teammates, and make defenses pay for every mistake. Here are a few of the standout floor spacers who caught my attention this spring.    3N Sports has a talented group that plays extremely well together, and Audrey consistently stands out. She's a dynamic scorer who can create off the bounce and knock down shots from deep. With the ball in her hands, she applies constant pressure on the defense by getting into the paint and forcing rotations. Defenders can't afford to give her space because of how quickly she gets her shot off. Off the ball, she has a great feel for spacing, consistently finding openings for catch-and-shoot opportunities and making opponents pay.     The Mount Horeb product was a threat from all areas of the floor. She handles the ball well, creates for teammates, and is always a danger from beyond the arc. Give her any space, and she'll shoot with confidence. What stands out most is her activity without the ball. Lauren is constantly cutting, relocating, and finding open space. Her shooting ability is elite and ranks among the best I've seen this spring.     Team Prime Nation is loaded with talent, but Demi immediately catches your attention with her size and length. She impacts the game on the glass, runs the floor well, and can push the ball in transition. What earned her a spot in this article, though, is her shooting ability. Her versatility as a shooter is impressive—she can score off the catch, coming off pin-downs, and off the dribble, making her a difficult matchup.     Lily was one of the most impressive players I watched this past weekend. She's quick, changes pace effectively, and plays under control in both transition and the half-court. She sees the floor well and consistently makes the right passing reads. Her jumper stands out immediately thanks to its compact, repeatable mechanics. Against 24, she knocked down several timely threes that helped keep her team within striking distance. Lily has established herself as one of the best shooters I've seen all spring.     Karys is a key reason why this [program_tooltip program_id='1736700' first='Midwest' last='Magic'] team is so enjoyable to watch. The group plays with great chemistry and confidence, and Karys embodies that mindset. When she gets an open look, she shoots without hesitation. As a true floor spacer, she creates room for both herself and her teammates with her shooting ability. Whether it's a pick-and-pop jumper from mid-range or a three-pointer, she consistently stretches the defense. The Mother McAuley product will be a major factor in this team's continued success.     This player is every bit as good as advertised. Her leadership is evident in how she organizes her team and puts players in the right positions. In the half-court, she's a threat to attack the rim, finish through contact, and make the correct passing reads. She's also become an effective floor spacer as her shooting continues to improve. Haywood possesses the qualities coaches look for in a point guard at the next level.
