With a slate of six games today, I will be updating you with at the action at New Castle High School. Check back for updates throughout the day or follow me on Twitter for more timely updates. Game 1: Central Noble vs. Triton Central Central Noble got off to a blazing start 9-0 before Triton Central battled back to make it a 17-8 game at the end of the first. Triton Central used tough defense and balanced scoring to get back into the game and trailed at the half, 25-20. Triton Central continues to inch closer to Central Noble in the third. They trail 34-32 after three quarters after taking a 1-point lead with just under five minutes to go in the frame. In the end, Central Noble was too much for Triton Central as they widened the gap early in the fourth quarter and never let Triton Central back into it. Final: Central Noble 51, Triton Central 45 Sydney Freeman (CN) - 22 points, 7 rebounds Rylie Stephens (TC) - 20 points, 9 rebounds Meleah Leatherman (CN) - 19 points, 9 rebounds Game 2: Linton-Stockton vs. Monroe Central Linton-Stockton got out to a very fast start behind the shooting of sophomores Aubrey Burgess and Vanessa Shafford who both hit multiple jumpers. Monroe Central fell into a full court press which really threw Linton off their game. Linton struggled to score the ball and Monroe Central took advantage and went on a big run in the second quarter. In the third, Monroe Central was able to get a ton of second chance points which led them to increasing their lead at the end of the third to 40-31. Linton-Stockton really used their defense in the fourth quarter to take over. They scored four points in a matter of seconds to tie up the game late in the fourth quarter and sophomore Haley Rose drove to the rim and made a shot to win the game with 2.1 seconds left in the game. https://x.com/MasonHAsher/status/1066409080846196738 Final: Linton-Stockton 54, Monroe Central 53 Jordyn Barga (MC) - 28 points, 16 rebounds Vanessa Shafford (LS) - 20 points Aubrey Burgess (LS) - 16 points Hannah Bolton (MC) - 12 points, 7 rebounds Haley Rose (LS) - 10 points Game 3: Winchester vs. Oak Hill Winchester's height down low really spelled some trouble for Oak Hill as they failed to shoot the ball well. Winchester looked very solid thus far. The second quarter was totally different as Oak Hill started getting inside and drawing contact. They got to the line pretty well and converted in the second quarter to turn a six point deficit at the end of the first into a six point lead at the half. Oak Hill was able to keep it going in the third quarter as they really forced Winchester into some bad shots. They extended their lead to 14 after three frames. Oak Hill really took off in the fourth as their defense just kept coming. Final: Oak Hill 59, Winchester 39 Taylor Westgate (OH) - 18 points, 10 rebounds Adrianna Trexler (OH) - 18 points, 9 rebounds Madeline Lawrence (W) - 11 points Kira Robinson (W) - 10 points Game 4: Elkhart Central vs. Fishers Very even game thus far. Both teams are looking to push the ball and transition for early baskets. Both teams are playing solid and the halftime score shows that. Lots of running in this one. Elkhart Central got off to a very fast start in the third quarter extending their lead to nine with five minutes left in the frame. Fishers battled back and ended up making it competitive at the end of the third. Fishers could not match up with the speed of Elkhart in the end. Despite some really solid play, Fishers could not haul this one in. Final: Elkhart Central 64, Fishers 53 Trinitee Harris (EC) - 27 points, 7 rebounds Katie Burton (F) - 15 points Yiesha Williams (EC) - 12 points Game 5: Warsaw vs. New Castle Not much offense through one quarter. Both teams are struggling to get anything going and it shows on the scoreboard. New Castle is really struggling through one half of play and can't get anything going. The bigs inside for Warsaw are really causing havoc and New Castle cannot score. New Castle got it going a little bit in the third quarter but still trailed after three quarters by nine. Senior Cameron Tabor got her shot to fall a little bit in the fourth quarter but struggled to put the ball in the basket late in the game. Final: Warsaw 46, New Castle 39 Cameron Tabor (NC) - 24 points, 10 rebounds Kaylee Patton (W) - 16 points Abby Sanner (W) - 10 points (5/5 FG) Game 6: East Central vs. Pike After the first quarter Pike led by nine points. The freshmen are making an impact for Pike and they have made at least four 3-pointers. East Central clawed back into it a little bit right before the half but Pike would not let East Central get much closer than six points as they extended their lead out to eight at the half. East Central kept the game close through three quarters but really weren't able to get the game that close. Pike pulled away in the fourth quarter finally and took the win in the nightcap of the New Castle Shootout Final: Pike 57, East Central 45 Jada Roberson (P) - 19 points Logan Cox (EC) - 16 points, 7 rebounds Brilan McCory (EC) - 10 points
