Recruiting Report: Alex Pirog, Highlands Ranch 2022

At 6-foot-2, [player_tooltip player_id="95179" first="Alex" last="Pirog"] is hard to miss when she walks into any gym and her Highlands Ranch team is expecting big things from the rising junior in 2020-21. Pirog is also hard to ignore as a collegiate prospect, as evidenced by the rising number of schools continuing to take notice of the young center. On Monday, Pirog announced via Twitter that she has received an offer to play basketball at the University of Montana. It was Pirog's first offer. It won't be her last. “It was really shocking when the coaches told me,” Pirog said. “I just got a pit in my stomach and it was super exciting. I hope it's the first of many.” [caption id="attachment_186786" align="alignright" width="300"]<img class="size-medium wp-image-186786" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/pgh/uploads/2020/07/64960C9A-1AFE-4394-8F07-B62DDD334709-300x276.jpeg" alt="" width="300" height="276" /> [player_tooltip player_id="95179" first="Alex" last="Pirog"][/caption] Currently the 15^th-ranked player in the Prep Girls Hoops Colorado player rankings for the <a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/colorado/rankings/2022-rankings/">Class of 2022</a>, Pirog said she has also been talking with the University of Wyoming, South Dakota State University, the University of Northern Colorado, Lehigh University, California Baptist University, the University of Portland and Lafayette College. “I really am just looking for somewhere that best fits me right now, both academically and basketball-wise,” Pirog said. “I want to go somewhere where the team feels like a family.” As a sophomore in 2019-20, Pirog averaged 7.6 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. She also blocked 2.1 shots a night and averaged 1.3 steals. A player with good footwork who runs the floor exceedingly well for a post, Pirog has great length and anticipates well at the defensive end to block and alter shots. Pirog said she is working on expanding her shooting range and has been lifting weights several times a week in order to increase her strength. With Pirog working hard to improve, the upcoming season will be an exciting one to watch for Highlands Ranch after the Falcons reached the Final Four in Class 5A last winter. “I'm looking forward to the high school season and getting back with our team,” Pirog said. “I think we'll be pretty good.
