Players have been able to do individual skill work but no live play as of yet. The MT Elite Ducks program finally got on the floor today for a real game but had to go to Indianapolis, Indiana to do so. Program Director Dan Norton (Abington Varsity) and Coach Matt Dellabarba (Plymouth South Varsity) led both the 17u Sapphire team and the 16u Platinum team into the Tournament of Champions field.
The 17u Sapphire team started off the day with a 65-44 win over the Illinois Aristocrats. The Ducks played amazing team basketball as all 7 players dressed scored at least 6 points. Class of 2022 Forward Julia Elie Julia Elie 6'3" | PF Rockland | 2022 State New E of Rockland led the way with 16 points. Coach Dan Norton said “I was happy to see the girls make the extra pass and play some team first basketball against some high level midwest competition.”
In game 2 of the day for the Ducks 17u they lost a tough battle to the Illinois Rockets 67-61. Again Julia Elie Julia Elie 6'3" | PF Rockland | 2022 State New E showed why she is the 44th ranked player in Massachusetts in the Class of 2022 as the 6’3’’ forward led her team with 23 points. She runs the floor rim to rim extremely well and finishes in transition. Class of 2021 shooting guard Kerin McCarthy Kerin McCarthy 5'6" | SG Weymouth | 2021 State MA (34th ranked MA) of Weymouth HS scored from long range and finished going to the rim and added 17 points.
The opening game of the tournament for the 16u Platinum Ducks team saw them win convincingly over the Lady Challengers of Illinois 70-46. Once again the Ducks were led by Julia Elie Julia Elie 6'3" | PF Rockland | 2022 State New E of Rockland who had 15 points for the winners. Caroline Connelly Caroline Connelly 5'10" | PF Hingham | 2022 State MA (60th ranked 2022) a 5’10 power forward from Hingham added 13.
In the final game of the day the MT Elite Ducks Platinum team improved to 2-0 with a 44-23 defensive gem over the Central Illinois Predators. The size of the Ducks proved to be too much as once again Julia Elie Julia Elie 6'3" | PF Rockland | 2022 State New E led the way with 14 points. Adding 14 points to the cause was 6’4’’ center Savannah Striano Savannah Striano 6'3" | C Weymouth | 2022 State MA from Weymouth. The 57th ranked player in Massachusetts class of 2022.
