6A Region 1 Preview and Predictions - North

<p>As we head into the second year of the current region alignments—with even more changes coming next season—the question is whether last year's contenders will once again rise to the top or if someone is ready to disrupt the standings. With key players graduating, young talent stepping into bigger roles, and new faces joining several programs, some regions could look very different by the end of the season. We take a look at each region, who enters as the favorite, and which teams have the potential to shake things up.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">SYRACUSE</h2>   <p><strong>Record: 19-6. 1st in Region 1.</strong></p>   <p><strong>Syracuse Titans</strong><br>Syracuse is coming off an impressive season that saw the Titans finish first in Region 1, but replacing seven seniors will certainly make a repeat more challenging. While last year's veteran-heavy roster leaves plenty of production to replace, Syracuse still has a few weapons up its sleeve.</p>   <p>The centerpiece of this year's group could be sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='1321376' first='Mindy' last='McNeil'], who put together a breakout summer and looks ready to take on a much bigger role. She should have some veteran pieces to lean on if last year's roster holds, including [player_tooltip player_id='1579525' first='Avery' last='King'], Sadie Ringle, [player_tooltip player_id='1579512' first='Alex' last='Secrist'], and [player_tooltip player_id='1233988' first='Jasmine' last='Burnett']. With so much of the statistical production belonging to last year's senior class, there wasn't much room for the younger players to establish themselves. That changes this season, leaving plenty of minutes, touches, and opportunities for new talent to emerge, like [player_tooltip player_id='1865667' first='Madilyn' last='Pitcher'], coming in as a freshman.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">DAVIS</h2>   <p><strong>Record: 16-9. 2nd in Region 1.</strong></p>   <p><strong>Davis Darts</strong><br>The Darts return their top statistical leaders in [player_tooltip player_id='1600558' first='Lydia' last='Tarbet'], [player_tooltip player_id='827408' first='Kate' last='Willard'], [player_tooltip player_id='1324841' first='Campbell' last='Christensen'], and [player_tooltip player_id='1600575' first='Hannah' last='Garlock'], giving Davis an experienced core to build around. Kate, in particular, should be one to watch as she looks to help anchor the roster and take on an even bigger role this season.</p>   <p>Some holes remain after the graduating seniors, but Davis has younger players ready to step in and do more than simply replace what was lost. If those pieces develop quickly and the returning core keeps producing, the Darts could be the team that puts everything together and makes a run at the Region 1 title this year.</p>   <p>Other potential contributors: [player_tooltip player_id='997505' first='Tessa' last='Hansen'], [player_tooltip player_id='1872442' first='Makelle' last='Thompson'], [player_tooltip player_id='1858944' first='Eva' last='Pitcher'], [player_tooltip player_id='1869494' first='Emma' last='Knight'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1867338' first='Ainsley' last='Ady']</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">FARMINGTON</h2>   <p><strong>Record: 14-9. 3rd in Region 1.</strong></p>   <p><strong>Farmington Phoenix</strong><br>Farmington enters the season as one of the more intriguing teams in Region 1 because nearly all of last year's production is back. Leading scorers [player_tooltip player_id='997503' first='Olive' last='Wayland'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1539098' first='Ellie' last='Dorius'] return to give the Phoenix proven offensive options, while the experience throughout the rest of the roster means they won't be asking an entirely new group to figure things out on the fly.</p>   <p>That continuity could be especially important against teams like Syracuse, which is replacing a large senior class, and Davis, which will also be working new players into its rotation. Farmington already has players who understand their roles and have played meaningful varsity minutes together, allowing the Phoenix to turn some of last year's close games into wins.</p>   <p>[player_tooltip player_id='1247143' first='Devan' last='Howey'] is another name to watch as a potential difference-maker within that returning group. Watch for [player_tooltip player_id='1823707' first='Evie' last='Stewart'], [player_tooltip player_id='1350611' first='Morgan' last='Snell'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1250747' first='Makelle' last='Weber'] as well. If Farmington can turn its experience into more consistent production and get another player or two to emerge alongside Wayland and Dorius, the Phoenix shouldn't simply improve on last season—they could legitimately challenge Davis and Syracuse for the top of Region 1 and become the dark horse that changes the order of the standings.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">WEBER</h2>   <p><strong>Record: 13-11. 4th in Region 1.</strong></p>   <p><strong>Weber Warriors</strong><br>Weber took a step forward last season by improving its record, and with a good portion of its production potentially returning, the Warriors have an opportunity to continue that upward trend.</p>   <p>A big reason for the optimism starts with [player_tooltip player_id='1661111' first='Jade' last='Kulpa'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1250746' first='Bradey' last='Schiffman']. Both made significant contributions as younger players last season, with the pair appearing near the top of nearly every statistical category for Weber. [player_tooltip player_id='827397' first='Avery' last='Shupe'] also made an impact defensively, particularly in the steals column. If that core returns intact and continues to develop, Weber won't be starting from scratch. Watch out for the freshman incoming for Weber. [player_tooltip player_id='1872443' first='Faith' last='Hallows'] could be a big contributor. They will have proven contributors who are another year older and more experienced, giving the Warriors a chance to improve their record again and become a tougher matchup within Region 1.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">LAYTON</h2>   <p><strong>Record: 6-15</strong></p>   <p><strong>Layton Lancers</strong></p>   <p>The Lancers made a significant jump last season, tripling their win total from the year before and showing that the program is moving in the right direction. The next challenge for Layton will be turning that progress into more success within a competitive Region 1.</p>   <p>There is still plenty of room for growth, but Layton should have several of last year's contributors back to build around. [player_tooltip player_id='1324150' first='Kenley' last='Bennie'], [player_tooltip player_id='1350637' first='Kaymbree' last='Henry'], and Jamie Vowles all return with another year of experience and should have opportunities to take on larger roles. For the Lancers to make a real dent in the region standings, though, they'll need more than individual improvement. This group will need to develop greater consistency and cohesion on both ends of the floor.
