PGH Sophomore ID Camp: The best of Team 2

When we scout an event like the Prep Girls Hoops Sophomore ID Camp, we enter the gym with the intent to provide every player an equal opportunity to shine. It usually doesn't take long, however, for the most-gifted prospects to sparkle like diamonds. That was certainly the case this past Sunday in Maple Grove where five minutes into the competition a certain someone from Chanhassen had already stepped up and said, “I'm her!” That's why [player_tooltip player_id='1244229' first='Lucy' last='Hilgert'] – one of Minnesota's emerging stars – leads the way today as we look at the best of Team 2.    Hilgert is one of the big dogs in the 2029 class and wasted no time reminding everyone why. Shortly into Sunday's proceedings, the 5'10 lefty from Chanhassen casually stepped back and buried one of her patented threes – smooth, effortless and nothing but net. No celebration. No change in expression. Just business. All business. Hilgert plays with equal parts finesse and ferocity, combining elite shooting mechanics with the ability to handle, create and make plays for others. She's also noticeably stronger and more physical than she was a year ago and every aspect of her game has improved. Already a top-20 prospect and collecting Division I offers, the reigning PGH 2029 AAU Breakout Player of the Year continues to push her game forward.     Fresh off a big performance at Saturday night's Nickle Dickle three-point shooting contest in her hometown of Waconia, Eggers carried the hot hand directly into Sunday morning. The 5'9 combo guard sprinted out of the gate and seemingly remained at full volume all day long. Eggers plays fast and aggressively, bringing an alpha-dog mentality to everything she does. She attacks opportunities rather than waiting for them and combines that competitive edge with an excellent understanding of the game. Eggers is a vocal presence, plays hard at both ends and has repeatedly demonstrated strong situational awareness. Oh yeah, she can also bomb it. Already an important part of Waconia's varsity program, the top-50 prospect in the 2029 class continues to show she's for real.     We've loved Reiman's potential from the first time we saw her, but it's difficult to quantify just how much better she has become. The 6'1 forward (pictured above) has always been long, athletic and gifted. Now she's playing with poise, maturity and confidence. The biggest difference may be how naturally everything happens. Aliya used to look like she had to think about what her next move was going to be. Now she just does it. One possession Sunday provided a perfect example: a nifty spin in the lane followed immediately by a soft jumper. It was sweet and there was zero hesitation. Reiman is quicker, stronger and more skilled while using her length effectively at both ends. She is definitely a scholarship-worthy prospect.     Swanson has really come into her own entering her sophomore season as she emerges from the shadows of older sisters Jacey and Journey, now at Dakota Wesleyan. Hadley has grown, filled out and gotten stronger while retaining the quickness, intelligence and constant activity that have always made her effective. Swanson is perpetually alert, seemingly ready for whatever happens next. She moves well without the ball, cuts with purpose, keeps her eyes up and distributes the basketball quickly when opportunities appear. Defensively, her quick feet, physicality and awareness allow her to handle a variety of assignments and create chances to score in transition. Swanson also showed a quick, confident shooting stroke Sunday, putting good arc on the ball and letting it fly when she had daylight. She's becoming an increasingly complete and versatile two-way player.
