PGH Sophomore ID Camp: Team 10 evaluations

We've made it to Team 10, which means my run of Prep Girls Hoops Sophomore ID Camp coverage is coming to a close. It's been a fun event to look back on, with plenty of talented prospects giving us a glimpse of what the 2029 class has to offer.   Team 10 was a good group to finish with. We saw players make an impact in different ways in Maple Grove on Sunday, whether it was scoring the basketball, creating for teammates, defending or simply making the right play. That's what makes an event like this fun to cover. Put a bunch of talented players on the floor together and see who finds a way to separate themselves.   I've enjoyed going back through each team and highlighting some of the performances that caught my attention. Now it's time to put a bow on my Sophomore ID Camp coverage with Team 10.    How does the saying go, shooters shoot? Well, that was certainly the case with Reed on Sunday. She missed a couple early on, but that didn't deter her one bit. Once she found her rhythm, Arielle's shot was dancing through the rim all day, rarely touching anything but net. When defenders chased her off the line, Reed showed there's more to her game than just shooting. She displayed a tight handle, got herself to the rim and showed the ability to finish with either hand. She's strong, competes and can flat-out shoot the lights out. Eastview has been known for having shooters with in-the-gym range in recent memory, and it looks like that trend is going to continue. Reed is another one you better find before she gets going.     You flat out can't relax when Rengstorf is on the court. She's flying in from behind knocking balls away, shooting passing lanes in transition and just being flat-out disruptive. You have to love that type of effort. On the offensive side, Zoie was always looking to push the ball ahead, whipping passes on a frozen rope that allowed teammates to go right into their shot. If you relaxed for even a second, she would blow by you in a blur and get to a smooth left-handed finish. She also knocked down shots from the outside, showing off her picturesque form. Rengstorf was certainly fun to watch. She's the type of player who makes every team she's on better because of how selfless she is and how hard she competes on every possession.     If Kellett is anywhere near the ball, you better not relax. She's quick as a cat and pounces just as fast. On numerous occasions, she came out of seemingly nowhere to steal inbound passes, giving her squad extra possessions and making teams think twice before casually putting the ball in play. When she wasn't being a pest on defense, Kendall showed she can be a nice catch-and-shoot threat. She also showed some craft getting to the rack, beating a bigger defender and using a slick inside-hand finish to avoid the blocked shot. Guess where she's from? You guessed it, Wayzata! There's a lot to like about her game, but the heart and hustle stood out most. You can't teach either one, and Kellett has both in abundance!     We don't name MVPs at events like this, but if we did, Denkmann made a strong case to take home some hardware. The 6-footer out of where else, Wayzata, was clicking on all cylinders. Inside, outside, off the bounce, on the boards and defensively, she left her imprint on all three courts throughout the day. Denkmann showed off her range and ability to score from different spots, but she was far from selfish. She kept her teammates involved, delivering on-the-money passes that led to easy opportunities. She just seemed to be involved in everything. Currently ranked No. 3 in the 2029 class, that doesn't happen by chance. She's put the work in, and it shows every time she laces them up. There's a big year ahead for this dynamo.     What isn't there to like about this 6-footer out of Alexandria? Running set solid, legal screens, showed patience and rolled hard to the basket. She embraces her size and knows how to take advantage of mismatches, even shouting them out loud so there was no mistaking what her intentions were. Running also showed great court awareness and IQ, navigating around the rim and putting herself in position for easy opportunities. You don't usually see bigs getting down on the floor going after loose balls, but that just means you haven't seen Running. She gave her body up numerous times fighting for possessions and wasn't afraid to do the dirty work. She was fun to watch, and we'll certainly be keeping an eye on her. Don't be surprised to see her stock start rising.     Young is another prospect with good size to keep your eyes on. The stretch five out of Eden Prairie rim runs with the best of them and has primarily made her bones operating around the basket. On Sunday, she showed she's been working to expand her game, confidently letting it fly from beyond the arc. Young seems to understand that in today's game, you can't be a one-trick pony. You have to have layers to your game. Catherine still battles on the boards and guards around the rim with vigor, but it was refreshing to see her step outside and show off the work she's put into her perimeter game. Young is still relatively unknown, but that won't last long if she continues adding to her bag. The more versatile she becomes, the more her stock will rise.     Hinze was another player who wasn't on a mission to do too much, but rather took the opportunity for what it was. She guarded full court, communicated, kept the ball moving and took advantage of opportunities when they presented themselves. Nothing was forced, and she played within the flow of the game. We've seen Hinze throughout the AAU season, so we know what she's capable of when called upon. She can score the basketball and make plays, but Sunday was more about showing she can impact the game without needing the ball in her hands. There's something to be said for a player who understands the assignment and doesn't feel the need to prove herself on every possession. Hinze played hard, made winning plays and let the game come to her.
