Region 3 has been home to some of the most competitive girls basketball in Utah, and the upcoming season should be no exception. Lone Peak has dominated the classification in recent years, winning four consecutive state championships before falling to Bingham in last season's title game. But the Knights aren't the only team with championship aspirations.

Skyridge returns one of the top young players in 6A, American Fork brings back an established scorer and a promising supporting cast, and Lehi has the opportunity to develop a new group after losing some important contributors. Corner Canyon, meanwhile, is looking to make a significant jump after a difficult season.

1. Lone Peak - Nationally ranked addition makes them more dangerous

Lone Peak's run of four consecutive 6A state championships came to an end last season, but the Knights still reached the championship game, and their outlook for 2026–27 just became considerably more interesting. Despite losing several experienced contributors, Lone Peak returns an impressive young core and adds a potentially game-changing presence in [player_tooltip player_id='1360407' first='Nation' last='Williams'], a nationally ranked 6'4" player.

Williams gives the Knights something few programs in Utah can match: elite size combined with the expectations that come with being a nationally recognized prospect. Her presence alone could dramatically change how opponents approach Lone Peak, particularly around the basket. At 6'4", she has the physical tools to become a major factor on the glass, alter shots defensively, and create difficult matchups for opposing frontcourts. Williams was named the 2024–25 Nevada Gatorade Girls Basketball Player of the Year while playing at Centennial. She averaged 17.3 points, 10.4 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.5 steals, and 1.5 blocks, helping her team win a Nevada 5A championship. She was also ranked No. 10 nationally in her class by 247Sports at the time.

The Knights also return [player_tooltip player_id='952625' first='Peyton' last='Warner'], who earned Second Team All-State honors as a freshman after averaging approximately 12 points per game. [player_tooltip player_id='804252' first='Madeline' last='Pope'] is back after averaging around 10 points and earning Third Team All-State recognition, while [player_tooltip player_id='873282' first='Charli' last='Warner'] provides another experienced guard who contributed more than six points per game last season.

That combination of established perimeter talent and Williams' size could give Lone Peak a much more balanced attack. With guards capable of creating offense and a nationally ranked presence inside, the Knights have the potential to challenge opponents in multiple ways.

Players of note:

[player_tooltip player_id='1867045' first='Brielle' last='Burniston'], [player_tooltip player_id='873278' first='Jordan' last='Moeaki'], [player_tooltip player_id='1870796' first='Leah' last='Capell'], [player_tooltip player_id='1800506' first='Leila' last='Unga'], [player_tooltip player_id='1246444' first='Olivia' last='Harness'], [player_tooltip player_id='1378344' first='Portia' last='Boggess'], [player_tooltip player_id='1092158' first='Tatum' last='Brewer'], [player_tooltip player_id='1848519' first='Taylee' last='Cook'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1870798' first='Tiare' last='Mili'].

Takeaways: Lone Peak should be considered a leading 6A state championship favorite, not just the favorite in Region 3.

2. Skyridge - Another addition makes them a contender

Skyridge was already positioned to be one of Lone Peak's biggest challengers in Region 3, but the addition of [player_tooltip player_id='997504' first='Stella' last='Madsen'] gives the Falcons another important piece heading into the 2026–27 season.

The Falcons return [player_tooltip player_id='875188' first='Elena' last='Chiara'], who earned First Team All-State honors after averaging 13.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.8 steals per game as a sophomore. Chiara has already established herself as one of the classification's most complete young players, combining offensive production with the ability to create opportunities for her teammates and disrupt opponents defensively.

[player_tooltip player_id='1092156' first='Halle' last='Sheffield'] also returns after averaging 10.5 points and 3.3 assists per game. Together, Chiara and Sheffield give Skyridge an experienced backcourt capable of controlling the tempo, handling pressure, and providing consistent offensive production.

Adding Madsen to that foundation makes the Falcons even more intriguing. With several experienced players graduating, her arrival gives Skyridge another option as it looks to replace lost production and build a rotation capable of competing with the best teams in 6A. The biggest question will be how quickly the returning players and newcomers establish chemistry. Skyridge already has the backcourt talent to compete with most teams in the classification, and additional roster depth could help the Falcons close the gap with Lone Peak.

Players of note:

[player_tooltip player_id='1242848' first='Adalyn' last='Moen'], [player_tooltip player_id='1865671' first='Allison' last='Day'], [player_tooltip player_id='1870791' first='Ava' last='Habbas'], [player_tooltip player_id='997498' first='Bella'Capri' last='Nelson'], [player_tooltip player_id='1849745' first='Brynlee' last='Barnes']
[player_tooltip player_id='1800510' first='Carly' last='Fatialofa'], [player_tooltip player_id='1875459' first='Emma' last='Clyde'], [player_tooltip player_id='805784' first='Harley' last='Sowby'], [player_tooltip player_id='1870790' first='Kate' last='Kingsford'], [player_tooltip player_id='1865679' first='Laylie' last='Martindale'], [player_tooltip player_id='1880692' first='Leah' last='Arnell'], [player_tooltip player_id='1827628' first='Nalei' last='Nelson'], [player_tooltip player_id='1361351' first='Emberlynn' last='Dell'], [player_tooltip player_id='1865661' first='Genevieve' last='Morris'], [player_tooltip player_id='961167' first='Haylee' last='Beck']

Takeaways: Skyridge remains our No. 2 team in Region 3, but Madsen's arrival strengthens its position as Lone Peak's primary challenger.

3. American Fork - The team that could make the biggest jump

American Fork finished 14–9 overall last season but went just 3–5 in Region 3. That difference between its overall record and region finish suggests the Cavemen may be closer to competing near the top than the standings indicate.

The biggest returning piece is [player_tooltip player_id='1051328' first='Jalise' last='Chatman'], who earned Second Team All-State honors after averaging approximately 16 points per game. Chatman is one of the region's most productive returning scorers and brings proven offensive leadership as she enters her senior season.

[player_tooltip player_id='1240502' first='Morgan' last='Felix'] also returns after contributing 7.1 points per game, providing another experienced option who could take on a larger role. Developing younger players around Chatman and Felix will be important as American Fork looks to replace production from graduates.

AF graduate senior who added 12.2 points per game last season. Replacing that kind of offensive contribution will require more than one player to step forward.

The Cavemen have some intriguing young talent, and that could become the difference between another middle-of-the-pack finish and a legitimate push toward the top. With Chatman drawing plenty of defensive attention, American Fork needs additional players who can consistently knock down shots, attack openings, and take advantage of the opportunities she creates. [player_tooltip player_id='1242860' first='Summer' last='Holland'] is a new addition, and she could immediately get to work. [player_tooltip player_id='1568557' first='Maya' last='Durrant'] had some time last year to get a feel for the varsity stage, and seeing her in a bigger role could add to the dynamic of this team.

Players of note:

[player_tooltip player_id='1338632' first='Ady' last='Probert'], [player_tooltip player_id='1827638' first='Aliyah' last='Colborn'], [player_tooltip player_id='1568567' first='Allison' last='Brown'], [player_tooltip player_id='1851908' first='Aly' last='Rogerson'], [player_tooltip player_id='1306793' first='Bekah' last='Jacob'], [player_tooltip player_id='1240991' first='Braylee' last='Jensen'], [player_tooltip player_id='1240818' first='Brynn' last='Conley'], [player_tooltip player_id='1568557' first='Maya' last='Durrant'], [player_tooltip player_id='1851907' first='Ruby' last='Dunford'], [player_tooltip player_id='1242860' first='Summer' last='Holland'], [player_tooltip player_id='1240994' first='Devrey' last='Downs'], [player_tooltip player_id='1865662' first='Jaida' last='Richins']

Takeaways: American Fork is our pick to make a noticeable jump in Region 3. They have proven dual leadership and enough young talent to challenge Skyridge for second place if their supporting players develop quickly

4. Lehi - A program looking for new offensive leaders

Lehi finished 14–10 overall and 4–4 in region play last season, placing third in Region 3. The Pioneers were competitive throughout the year, but their season ended with a 50–46 loss to Lone Peak in the opening round of the state tournament.

The biggest challenge heading into this season is replacing the production from graduated seniors from last year, as well as transferring players headed to other schools. That leaves Lehi needing younger players to take on larger responsibilities. The Pioneers have been competitive within Region 3, but replacing experienced scoring and establishing a reliable rotation will be critical.

[player_tooltip player_id='950220' first='Kelcee' last='Rasmussen'] contributed 8.1 points and 1.7 assists. Young players looking to step in could quickly take advantage of the open positions left by departures and show that they could have been impactful before this season. [player_tooltip player_id='1238748' first='Camryn' last='Bell'] is already getting offers from D1 schools, and her movement, agility, and confidence grew immensely over the summer; she could be a pivotal piece for the Pioneers.

Lehi's defensive results were encouraging last season, allowing fewer points in region play than American Fork or Skyridge. Maintaining that defensive consistency could help the Pioneers remain competitive while their offense develops.

Players of note:

[player_tooltip player_id='1240183' first='Addison' last='Gines'], [player_tooltip player_id='1247148' first='Brinley' last='Sorensen'], [player_tooltip player_id='1240987' first='Chloe' last='Rykert'], [player_tooltip player_id='805785' first='Hayden' last='Warren'], [player_tooltip player_id='1865645' first='Ivie' last='Thatcher'], [player_tooltip player_id='1240518' first='Josslyn' last='Lotaki'], [player_tooltip player_id='1327116' first='Maleah' last='Roos'], [player_tooltip player_id='805783' first='Paisley' last='Worthen']

Takeaways:

Lehi enters as a potential middle-of-the-pack team, but its ceiling will depend heavily on which returning players are available and how quickly younger contributors emerge.

5. Corner Canyon - Young talent with opportunity to grow

Corner Canyon endured a difficult 2025–26 season, finishing 5–20 overall and 1–7 in Region 3. The Chargers struggled defensively, allowing 533 points in eight region games, and finished well behind the rest of the region in scoring margin.

However, the Chargers have several younger players who gained varsity experience and could become important pieces moving forward.

[player_tooltip player_id='997507' first='Aurayliah' last='Tapusoa'] was only a freshman last season and emerged as one of Corner Canyon's more productive offensive players. Her early varsity experience gives the Chargers a young player who could develop into a larger scoring role.

[player_tooltip player_id='1566930' first='Keala' last='Lund'] also returns after establishing herself as a defensive presence around the basket. At 6'1", she provides size and shot-blocking ability, two things that could become particularly valuable as Corner Canyon looks to improve defensively.

The biggest challenge will be improving defensive consistency. Corner Canyon struggled to contain opponents last season, and reducing those scoring opportunities will be necessary if the Chargers hope to close the gap with the rest of Region 3.

Players of note:

The Chargers also return younger players such as Madison Thompson, Reese Humphries, [player_tooltip player_id='1566932' first='Brooklyn' last='Olsen'], and Ashton Nelson, giving the program several pieces who have already experienced the varsity level.

[player_tooltip player_id='1566933' first='Addi' last='Paytner'], [player_tooltip player_id='997507' first='Aurayliah' last='Tapusoa'], [player_tooltip player_id='1866444' first='Brinlee' last='Haslam'], [player_tooltip player_id='796480' first='Jacey' last='Yeomans'], [player_tooltip player_id='1566930' first='Keala' last='Lund'], [player_tooltip player_id='1724848' first='Maggie' last='Drummond'], [player_tooltip player_id='1239826' first='Maija' last='Mortensen'], [player_tooltip player_id='1247147' first='Mirabella' last='Stevens']

Takeaways:

Corner Canyon remains in a rebuilding phase, but the return of several young players gives the Chargers opportunities for improvement. A significant jump in the standings may be difficult, but this season could be important for the program's long-term development.
