518 Superior Showcase: The Final Group

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Recently, I attended the fall 518 Superior Showcase in Scotia, New York. About 40 of the best prospects in the Capital Region were on hand. The number of players in the gym was perfect for evaluating skills, as it made it easy to give each prospect ample attention. Although George-Henry can score the ball, her first option is to pass and get teammates easy shots, whether in the half-court game or in transition. She has a high basketball IQ and always makes the correct decision. George-Henry has a strong handle and is fearless when attacking the basket. She is a very good perimeter shooter whose feet are always squared up and ready to catch and release. She showed out once again at the 518 Superior event. Demarest is a versatile player who can play both the point and the shooting guard spots. She is a very good 3-point shooter with a smooth release and deep range. Demarest is an excellent ball-handler and possesses outstanding court vision. She is an elite defender. Demarest uses her lightning-quick hands to cause problems for opposing players. Van Wie was the MVP of her high school team last season as a sophomore and has high upside. She is a smooth shooter with a very good release and strong fundamentals. Van Wie is a skilled ball-handler who gets to the basket well and has a nice floater in the paint. She runs the floor well and finishes well on the break. Benson is an excellent 3-point shooter from the 3-point range. She can also step inside the arc and connect on shots with her smooth touch and solid mechanics. Benson is a strong defender who uses her anticipation skills to create turnovers. She runs the floor well and is a consistent finisher in transition. Zappia has the ability to get by her defenders and finishes well at the rim with both her right and left hands. She has excellent footwork on her jumper and a smooth release. Zappia is a hard worker on defense. She plays with a high motor, deflecting passes with her active hands and diving after loose balls. Schotts is a very good 3-point shooter with deep range. She has a solid handle and finishes well both off drives and in transition. Perhaps her greatest strength is on defense. She is an elite defender with fast hands and superb anticipation skills. She is always battling and scrapping.
