Players to Watch in Morris County

Players to Watch in Morris County

Morris County often features some highly competitive girls basketball games as well as teams. Without a true dominant power, the field is usually wide open in the county tournament, and a possession or two usually decides the outcomes. Let’s take a look at some of the players to watch in Morris County for this upcoming season. [player_tooltip player_id="155551" first="Bella" last="Vito"], Montville, Sr. -- Vito, a University of Vermont commit, was a reason why the Mustangs went 27-1 a season ago, capturing the Morris County Tournament title. As a junior, she averaged nearly 15 points per game. She was also one of the top rebounders on the team. Along with now-graduated senior [player_tooltip player_id="156153" first="Emma" last="Wax"], Vito led the team in steals with 57. Vito is a player with a smooth jumper and has all the tools to finish inside. Her ability to get steals and get out for easy points in transition separates her from other players. [player_tooltip player_id="134648" first="Tyonna" last="Bailey"], Morris Catholic, So. -- Bailey had a monster freshman year for the Crusaders, averaging 18 points per game, 10.9 rebounds per game and 4.8 assists per game. Bailey has been picking up major offers. She has been offered by West Virginia, Ohio State, Georgetown, Purdue, Michigan State, Michigan, Seton Hall and a number of other programs. Bailey can simply do it all on the basketball court. Expect more of the same from her as a sophomore for Morris Catholic. Olivia Cosenzo, Hanover Park, Sr. -- Cosenzo averaged 13.6 points per game for the Hornets in her junior season. She averaged nearly 10 rebounds per game and was tops on the team in steals with 98. She should be a senior leader for Hanover Park once the season begins. Mackenzie Creighton, Morris Hills, Jr. -- Creighton had a productive sophomore season for Morris Hills. She showed her ability to knock down perimeter shots – such as a five-triple performance against Sparta in January – and perhaps her best attribute is getting her teammates involved. She had a 12-assist game at the end of January in a win over Parsippany. Creighton is a player who can get it done on both ends. Angeleen Mulero, Randolph, Sr. -- Mulero was one of the leaders for the Rams in a very good 25-4 season a year ago. She makes plays on defense but her ability to score is probably Mulero’s best characteristic. She can score both inside and outside and she’s good in transition. She should take the next step as a senior for Randolph. Mackenzie Selvaggi, West Morris Central, Sr. -- Selvaggi is an exciting player to watch. She will be a leader for the Wolfpack this year. As a guard, she makes tons of plays on defense, but her ability to score is the best part of her game. She can be absolutely deadly from the perimeter when she gets it going on the offensive end. She gets to the foul line and she can drop 25-30 points on any given night. Consistency will be her biggest focal point going into her senior season. [player_tooltip player_id="159088" first="Grace" last="Soltes"], West Morris Central, Jr. -- Soltes is the ultimate post presence for the Wolfpack. She scores inside and crashes the glass. As a sophomore, Soltes had 12 double-double games. Her season-high in points was 30 against Monroe, and she finished with 16 boards on two different occasions. She can block, too. Soltes finished with four blocks five different times last year. Her and Selvaggi will be a tough 1-2 punch for any opponent.
