It was nearly a perfect season for Bishop Garrigan, as the Golden Bears made a run to the Class 1A state finals before coming up short vs. Newell-Fonda. They finished last year as one of the highest-scoring teams in the state, averaging 70 points and winning games by over 32 points a night. Fans should expect more of the same with the return of all-state players [player_tooltip player_id="63019" first="Audi" last="Crooks"], [player_tooltip player_id="63033" first="Molly" last="Joyce"] and [player_tooltip player_id="165010" first="Kaylyn" last="Meyers"]. Crooks, a sophomore, averaged 23 points and 12 boards a night. Joyce, her classmate, chipped in nearly 18 points, four steals and almost three rebounds, while Meyers added nine points and four boards.

Everything came up golden for Bishop Heelan last winter, as the Crusaders won the Class 3A state title. After winning the Missouri River Conference, Heelan picked up wins over Des Moines Christian, Clear Lake and North Polk to capture gold. All five starters, though, have moved on, leaving several holes to fill. [player_tooltip player_id="160570" first="Lauryn" last="Peck"], Kyla Michalak, Joslyn Verzal, Mary Kate Fitzsimmons, [player_tooltip player_id="160563" first="Kenley" last="Meis"], Lea Pederson and Lauren LaFleur all saw ample playing time and will be counted on this season.

Bondurant-Farrar pushed Grinnell until the very end last year before bowing out in a Class 4A regional semifinal. The Bluejays return [player_tooltip player_id="131133" first="Avery" last="Fried"], [player_tooltip player_id="64821" first="Katie" last="Fogarty"] and [player_tooltip player_id="129028" first="Mia" last="Miller"], who were team leaders in points, rebounds and assists, from that group. Fried averaged 14 points, shooting nearly 46 percent from the field and 43.5 percent from deep. Fogarty posted nearly six boards and nine and Miller had 90 assists as a sophomore.
