The Candice Dupree Invitational hosted a ton of talent this weekend at the new Wiregrass Ranch Sports Complex that is going to be getting a lot of use in the Tampa Bay Area. Huge shoutout to the whole Tampa Thunder program for putting on a smooth event that showcased a lot of the best players in the state. Here are 5 of my Top 10 unsigned prospects in the 2021 class in no particular order:
[player_tooltip player_id="145100" first="Jayla" last="Murray"] (FGB) – She finishes around the rim as good as anyone in the state. Her footwork is much improved, and it showed against high level competition this weekend. Jayla’s mid-range game is impressive for her position. I still don’t think she has even hit her ceiling yet, so keep your eyes on her continued progress.
[player_tooltip player_id="91505" first="Isys" last="Grady"] (DME) – She is built for the next level. Isys had the best spin move I saw this weekend. Her mid-range game is lethal and nearly impossible to stop. She creates off the dribble and is a mismatch for any defender 1-5. Isys also rebounds as well as most bigs who have more height.
[player_tooltip player_id="91490" first="Mikyla" last="Tolivert"] (ECU Murray) – She is a high percentage and consistent shooter. Mikyla jumps the passing lanes and locks down on defense. She’s strong with the ball in her hands and crashes the glass.
Taylor Gardner (ECU Clarke) – She’s a tough defender who can knock it down on the other end. Taylor handles the ball and is unselfish on the floor with her ability to find her open teammate. She knows the game and rotates well on both ends.
[player_tooltip player_id="151265" first="Bailey" last="Carlson"] (TNBA) – She’s a lengthy shooter with good height on her mid-range jumper. Bailey can shoot it from deep and uses the glass when attacking the rim. She has active hands on D that lead to deflections and blocked shots. Bailey can see the floor and communicates well on and off the court.
Stay tuned for part 2.
