Last year certainly showcased some of the state’s top players, and this year should be no different. Let’s take a look at some names to know in the Shore Conference for the 2020-21 season.
Destiny Adams Destiny Adams 6'3" | SF Manchester | 2021 State #26 Nation NJ , Manchester Township, Sr. – Adams is a top recruit in the nation and it’s easy to see why. The Manchester Township senior and North Carolina commit put up jaw-dropping numbers a season ago with 580 points, 376 rebounds, 78 blocks and 120 free throws in 32 games. She had 17 double-double performances last season. Adams should be in contention for the state’s top player this season.
Sammy Jay, Marlboro, Sr. – At point guard, Jay averaged 11 points per game and about 5 assists per game in 27 games for Marlboro in her junior year. She was a force on the defensive end with 3.4 steals per game, including seven steals apiece in wins over Trinity Hall and Middletown South. She can hit deep shots and also draw contact inside and finish. Expect an all-around solid senior year for Jay.
Hannah Orloff, Freehold Township, Sr. – Orloff was a strong scorer last year for Freehold Township, accumulating 400 points in 27 games of action, good for 14.8 points per game. She reached double figures in nearly every game last season, with her season-high of 26 points coming against Hightstown. Orloff was also an incredible rebounder with 310 overall for 11.5 per game. She was a double-double machine with 13 on the year. Orloff had 22 boards in a win over Howell. She finished with 2.9 blocks per game as well, including seven against Freehold Borough.
Caitlin Gresko, Howell, Sr. – Along with Grace Leary, Gresko is a player to watch on Howell this season. She finished with 339 points and 118 rebounds in 27 games of action a season ago. Gresko totaled 17 double-figure games, with her season-high of 26 points coming against Jackson Memorial this past February.
Abigail Antognoli Abigail Antognoli 5'6" | PG St. Rose | 2021 State NJ , St. Rose, Sr. – Antognoli, a Lafayette commit, had a strong junior year for state power St. Rose of Belmar. She finished with 314 points, 128 rebounds, 105 assists and 74 steals in 29 games. She is a smart guard who can do a little bit of everything on the court.
Brooke Hollawell Brooke Hollawell 5'6" | PG Manasquan | 2022 State NJ , Manasquan, Jr. – Hollawell finished with 414 points in 31 games for Manasquan. She reached double figures in 22 games. Hollawell put in a season-best 29 points against Marlboro last December, knocking down five 3-pointers in the game. She was able to get to the foul line and she also finished with 50 steals on the season.
Rachel Capua Rachel Capua 5'9" | SG Jackson Memorial | 2021 State NJ , Jackson Memorial, Sr. – Capua is a guard who has the capability to drop 30 points on any given night. She averaged 19 points per game as a junior. She showcased her ability to score, rebound, pass and make steals. In 27 games, Capua finished with 512 points, 131 rebounds, 52 assists, 112 steals, 104 made free throws and 62 made threes. One of her top performances came against Donovan Catholic this past January, going for 32 points on seven triples. She also had 11 rebounds in that double-double performance. Capua made 10 free throws en route to 31 points against Howell.
Madison St. Rose Madison St. Rose 5'10" | PG St. John Vianney | 2022 State #65 Nation NJ , St. John Vianney, Jr. – St. Rose had a monster sophomore year for St. John Vianney, racking up 532 points in 29 games. She reached double figures in every game but one. She amassed 20 points or more in 11 games. She exploded for 36 points against Belmar’s St. Rose last February. She made 15 free throws in that game. St. Rose also had double-digit steals in a pair of games, including 11 steals against Toms River East. Expect another standout year for the talented junior.
Maura Carney, Jackson Liberty, Sr. – Carney knows how to score the basketball, and that was on display in her junior year at Jackson Liberty. She finished with 431 points in 28 games. Her season-high was 29 points against Barnegat. Carney is also a strong perimeter shooter and defensive player. She hit seven triples against Donovan Catholic last season.
Kya Joseph Kya Joseph 5'7" | SG Barnegat | 2022 State NJ , Barnegat, Jr. – Joseph was a prolific scorer for Barnegat in her sophomore year. She totaled 458 points in 25 games, with her season-high being a double-double performance of 39 points and 12 rebounds against Donovan Catholic. Joseph was also able to get to the foul line, rebound, hit perimeter shots and make steals. She finished with 261 rebounds and had 13 double-doubles on the season.
