It’s never too early for too-early-season. With fall sports and school underway, it’s only a matter of time before the winter sports season is upon us.
With that in mind, here’s a look at some of the top point guards in Class A:
[player_tooltip player_id="98741" first="Brynn" last="Giesen"], West Fargo
Giesen has been a solid component piece for the Packers for a couple of years now and she’ll take on more responsibility as a senior. She’s one of the best two-way guards in the EDC, providing excellent long-range shooting off the ball to go with strong complementary playmaking. And she’s a feisty defender who can put pressure on the ball.
[player_tooltip player_id="98637" first="Arianna" last="Berryhill"], Bismarck Legacy
Berryhill has been one of the best players in the WDA each of the last two years and she’ll be the unquestioned leader of a Bismarck Legacy team that has the pieces to contend in the league again this winter. She’s an excellent defender who can make life difficult for her counterpart on any given night and the Sabers are going to have to win with strong defense this winter. She’s a decent perimeter shooter and strong slasher who can get to the free throw line at a high rate. She’ll have the ball in her hands a ton this winter and if she can shoot it with a little better efficiency, she’s got Player-of-the-Year potential.
[player_tooltip player_id="100461" first="Ella" last="Falk"], Jamestown
Falk is one of the top sophomores in the state and enjoyed a strong freshman season, averaging 10 points, better than six rebounds and nearly five assists. She’s excellent all-around and her ability to score from all over the floor, make plays for her teammates and set the tempo of the game will be important factors for a Jamestown team that will be breaking in a big batch of newcomers.
[player_tooltip player_id="98744" first="Ella" last="Fosse"], Grand Forks Red River
Fosse didn’t put up huge numbers for the Roughriders last year, but her value goes beyond the box score numbers. She’s a strong perimeter defender who helps set the tone on that end of the floor, spearheading one of the best defensive teams in Class A. And her ability to control the tempo has a big influence on the team’s success. Fosse does a great job facilitating, getting her teammates shots and it wouldn’t be surprising if she did take on a bigger scoring role as a senior.
