PGH Top 250 Expo in OKC – The Bigs

There were a lot of players six feet or taller on display in OKC last Sunday. Not only were they big, from top to bottom they were very talented. Not all were from Oklahoma, but we will take a look at the players who really stood out among the crowd - or the trees who stood out in the forest, as it were. Cheyenne Banks | 6-4 C | Mcloud | 2021 | https://www.hudl.com/profile/10375055/Cheyenne-Banks Banks is very, very big. At times, she was dominant in the paint on Sunday. She is very strong and gets a lot of rebounds with pretty good positioning. She scores under the rim with ease, usually because there isn’t anyone around that can block her. At this point, she is probably a D-II or D-III player, but once she arrives in college - with working out and university level conditioning - she could become a major force! Maggie Dooley | 6-3 C | Holy Family (CO) | 2022 | @MaggieDooley_ Dooley is the No. 39 ranked player in her class in 2022 for the state of Colorado for very good reason. She is a very agile 6-3 and played very, very well during the expo. She went up against some very good bigs and definitely held her own. She has a nice touch around the hoop, very good hands and is a really good finisher. She also - like a lot of six-footers - swats shots left and right. It was even more impressive to do it against such quality competition, however. [player_tooltip player_id="197970" first="Kamilah" last="Gay"] | 6-2 C | Garber | 2023 | @KamilahGay44 Gay has outstanding size and worked very well with her new teammates during the Expo. She is a big-bodied, very strong competitor who does a great job of keeping opponents out of the paint. She can definitely score under the basket, but does a very good job of usually getting the rebound and then finding the open teammate on the perimeter. She is still very young and over the next few years, she will definitely be one to keep an eye on. Zhanice Crawford | 6-2 C | Casady | 2021 | @Crawford__15 Ok. It is totally not fair for Casady Prep to have both Crawford and [player_tooltip player_id="151318" first="Jordyn" last="Turner"]. They are both very, very good inside. Crawford is strong and does a great job rebounding. Much like Banks, she could benefit from some college weight training and conditioning. She already has the skills to finish under the rim and swat most shots in the lane. Once she adds the ability to consistently get up and down the court, she will be an outstanding big. You can’t teach 6-2. She will play in D-II or D-III and needs to be seen during her last high school season. Sofi Woodson | 6-2 C | Jones | 2024 | @sofiwoodson Speaking of ones to watch... wow! Sofi Woodson is one to watch! She has outstanding size and is very athletic. She is strong and has very good hands. She is great at receiving the pass into the lane and can finish with ease, given her height and touch. She is only a freshman this season and will be a big-time star for Jones. With her skill set, height and dedication, the sky’s the limit for this young Oklahoma player. Toni Papahronis | 6-0 F | Edmond North | 2022 | @toni_papahronis We are updating the 2022 rankings recently and getting a chance to see Toni play in person again helped to confirm the belief that she most definitely needs to move up the list. She has great size, obviously, but more than that she is a big who can play like a guard. As a three, she has the handles to get to the hoop. She has the stop-and-pop ability to cause her defender to always attempt to be right on top of her - which more often than not doesn’t work. She is quick, fluid and plays at a very high level. It is no wonder that she already holds offers from at least six D-I’s including Tulsa, UTSA and Navy.
