Detroit, MI – The top talent in the mid-west was on hand for the Lady Ballers Insider Best of Michigan classic. Here are all of the results from yesterday’s event that had top talent from the region all under one roof.
Grosse Pointe South vs. Riverview Gabriel Richard – Grosse Pointe South won this game by a big margin of 72 – 26. Grosse Pointe South had five players score in double figures and kicked this event off very strong.
Ypsilanti Arbor Prep vs. Renaissance – Renaissance showed up to this event looking seasoned. The young team was able to come out and look dominant against an Arbor Prep team that boasts its fair share of division 1 prospects. The Phoenix won against Arbor Prep 61- 38. Kailee Davis looked like the dominant player that she is and took home MVP honors.
Ann Arbor Huron vs Midland Dow – Molly Davis is committed to continue her basketball at Central Michigan University, she was simply the best player on the floor as Dow went on to win 55 – 36. Reya Patel was big for Huron. Molly Davis took home MVP honors in this game.
Southfield A&T vs Carman Ainsworth – Another year, another Southfield team that Coach Marshall looks to have whipped in shape. Transfer Soleil Barnes scored her 1,000th career point and the Warriors pulled out a win that solidifies the idea they are a contender in Division 1. With a solid 17 point outing from post player Jasmine Worthy and a MVP worth performance from Marshall commit Alexis Johnson, the warriors won 68 – 55
Southbend Washington vs Jenison – Jenison was one the most intense teams of the day. The agressive style of defense stifled Washington for most of the game. Excellent help defense and timely shots, made this a covincing win. Ally Van Timmerman was the best player on the floor. The highly recruited Van Timmerman earned MVP honors.
Columbus Northland vs Detroit Country Day – Detroit Country day started off strong! Jasmine Powell handled the pressure of Northland with ease and had country day up by as many as 20 in the first half. The game completely changed when Jasmine Powell went down with injury to her ankle. Country Day wasn’t able to handle the pressure after that and Northland came back to win 68 – 61.
Toledo Rodgers vs. East Kentwood – East Kentwood is a very good team that will compete for a state championship team this year. However, they ran into Zia Cooke and wasn’t prepared to stop her 43 point outburst. Oakland commit, Allona Blackwell did a great job finishing with 23 points but it was not enough to stop Toledo Rodgers from winning 80 – 73.
Wayne Memorial vs. Chicago Whitney Young – Whitney Young is a good team that had a tough weekend in Michigan. Two losses but very good showings. Jeanae Terry was huge for Wayne Memorial. The Illinois commit scored 30 points, 10 rebounds, and 8 assists and Michigan commit Michaela Ziegler Griggs had 15 points and 10 rebounds. Final score of 71-56 with the Wayne Memorial Zebras taking the win.
Columbus Afrocentric vs DEPSA – This was the marquee matchup that bought everybody out (including Lamelo Ball). Two rosters filled with Division 1 players and All American hopefuls. Afrocentric’s Jordan Horston played a complete game. She did more than score, she controlled the game and showed her finesse. Demiya Hagemann made her case for being the best player in her class. Alexia Smith took the top spot as she led the Nubians in scoring. .
The LBI Best of Michigan Classic was one for the ages, with what is likely to be four all Americans in one building.
