Here at Prep Girls Hoops, we do our best to highlight as many prospects as we can. At the top of the 2021 class here in Florida is [player_tooltip player_id="91479" first="O’Mariah" last="Gordon"]. The Braden River point guard is a two-time Gatorade Player of the Year in the state and is verbally committed to Florida State. Her continued success will be well documented and well deserved.
While Gordon anchors this class, plenty of prospects exist beneath her with solid talent. I would like to highlight some of these prospects in the list below. [player_tooltip player_id="91501" first="Mya" last="Lewis"] - Hollywood Hills (PH 78) Lewis guided Hollywood Hills to a successful 2019-2020 season as the Spartans finished with a 14-6 record and a district championship appearance. The 5-foot-6 guard averaged 11.6 points per game across 16 games compiled according to MaxPreps. Of those contests, the Spartan captain scored in double-figures against 12 of her opponents. Hollywood Hills is also deep with power forward Jaici Hastings, Shallon Chai, and Paris Knowles. The trio combined to score nearly 32 points per game. When you add in Lewis, Hollywood Hills has one of the better rosters in the area. [player_tooltip player_id="91529" first="Alana" last="Sharpe"] - Western (PH 85) The Wildcats are in good shape this upcoming season after finishing with a 16-8 record a year ago. Western returns virtually its entire roster with [player_tooltip player_id="91529" first="Alana" last="Sharpe"] powering the group. The 6-foot center averaged 8.6 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game as a junior. Sharpe is a technician when it comes to grabbing rebounds, having nearly equal boards on both the offensive (95) and defensive (96) end. What this shows me is she puts herself in good position and has good recognition of shots coming off the glass. Not every prospect is effective on the glass, particularly on the offensive side of the ball. Against Piper, Sharpe scored 15 points and collected 16 boards. You have to like her for second chance points and added possessions with her frontcourt skill. [player_tooltip player_id="91515" first="Isabella" last="Reynolds"] - Coral Springs (PH 94) Another talented frontcourt prospect, Reynolds averaged 8.1 points per game across 19 games for the Colts. The 5-foot-10 power forward played well late in the season, scoring in double-figures in five of her final nine games according to MaxPreps. In that span, Coral Springs went 7-2 and won five in a row. The two parallels will look to continue that success in the fall. [player_tooltip player_id="91521" first="Lauryn" last="Hornstein"] - Dr. Krop (PH 82) The Lightning have a pair of electric players returning in 2021 [player_tooltip player_id="91510" first="Lindsey" last="Weingard"] and [player_tooltip player_id="91521" first="Lauryn" last="Hornstein"]. Dr. Krop finished with a 14-12 and a district championship victory over Everglades behind the powerful duo. The 5-foot-6 Hornstein averaged 12.9 points per game across 23 games. A terrific shooting guard, Hornstein exploded for eight 3-pointers and scored 40 points against Cypress Bay. In total, Hornstein finished in double-figures in 15 of her 23 contests. The Lightning should have high expectations with both combining to average over 35 points per game last season. [player_tooltip player_id="146975" first="Emily" last="Jimenez"] - Cardinal Gibbons (PH 68) Jimenez was a big reason the Chiefs rarely went home in defeat last season. Cardinal Gibbons went 25-4 with Jimenez averaging 11.6 points and 3.6 assists per game. Moreover, the versatile wing grabbed 4.6 rebounds and swiped 2.6 steals per game. With her 5-foot-10 size, you can see why Jimenez can be a menace in so many different areas of the game. [player_tooltip player_id="145104" first="Carla" last="Jean"] - North Miami (PH 64) [player_tooltip player_id="145104" first="Carla" last="Jean"] was a workhorse last season for the Pioneers. The 5-foot-6 combo guard played over 30 minutes per game and averaged 14.9 points per contest. North Miami owes her a lot of credit in helping them to a 21-5 record and a district championship victory over Hollywood Hills. While she can score, Jean was equally as strong on the defensive end. The Pioneer captain record ten steals three times and finished with 110 swipes on the season. Jean is an all-around great player in this region. [player_tooltip player_id="91546" first="Gabriela" last="Bendeck"] - Miami Christian (PH 67) Bendeck is a prime example that rankings are very fluid. The 5-foot-6 guard averaged 19.0 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.4 steals per game last season for Miami Christian. Those numbers are pretty good for a prospect ranked at the bottom 1/3 of this class. Moreover, Bendeck scored in double-figures in 22 of her 23 games played. It is no wonder Miami Christian went 20-7 last season. The Victors return virtually its entire roster with Bendeck spearheading the group. For any South Florida Prep Hoops news or information..please contact Michael Costeines @Steins_23 on Instagram or follow him on Twitter @Mungertown_Mike23.
