Holiday Workout W/ Jamie Weisner (Scott) and Bryan Edwards

There are a lot of Holiday tournaments going on during December with many teams traveling out of town. Some players are on a short break from games and have extra opportunities to get in the gym by themselves. Prep Girls Hoops made a trip over to the Tri-Cities at Columbia Basin College to evaluate a private workout led by renowned trainer Bryan Edwards and Washington basketball legend Jamie Weisner. Jamie Weisner Resume: - Member of one of the best travel ball teams in Washington's history (Northwest Blazers) that ended with a 188-5 record and competed on a national level for many years - Played at Oregon State - Pac 12 Player of the Year - NCAA All American - All over OSU’s record book in multiple stat categories - Pac 12 All Freshman Team - Canada U-19 National Team - Canada Senior National team Member - 2A State Champion at Clarkston HS - 33 points and 12 rebounds in state title game - WIAA state MVP - School record javelin thrower and state champ in same event, fourth in the 100-meter hurdles, fifth in the 300-meter hurdles and fifth in the high jump at the state meet - First round WNBA Draft Pick - Has been overseas playing professionally for many years Bryan Edwards is a basketball skills trainer based out of the Tri-Cities (Pasco, WA) area and trains countless boys and girls, while also running clinics/camps all over Eastern Washington. Him and Jamie got 7 players in the gym for an invite-only workout. Workout: Bryan ran most of the drills, while Jamie played a lot of defense, offered insight and encouragement, as well as hopping into some drills herself. The 2-hour long session revolved around a lot of footwork efficiency, pull up shots, movement without the ball, jab steps and attacks. This was true skill work. There were minimal fancy moves, or "extras" here, which allowed for me to see each player's skill set as it can translate into a game-like setting. The intensity was high and the focus was there from everyone.   Workout Player Evals: 2020 Emma Wilhelm, 5'5, PG, Royal HS- Shows quickness off the bounce during drills. Gets good lift on her pull up jump shot. Her HS coach is also her father, so she's comfortable being in the gym. Picks up on things quickly. Can finish around the rim well and has solid hang time. 2020 MeiLani McBee, 5'10, SF, Kennewick HS- Consistent shooting form and plays the game at her own pace. Good size and physical strength versus defense when getting open. She will be able to help a college program at the next level. 2021 Delaney Pink, 5'8, G, Chiawana HS- Very quick athlete in her feet and hands. She attacks the basket with aggression and utilizes the scoop shot. She was a consistent hard worker during the 2 hour session. 2021 Talia von Oelhoffen, 5'11, G, Tri Cities Prep HS- Very skilled player and comfortable training with her year-round trainer, Bryan Edwards. Her footwork is coming along really well and it's obvious that she works on it on a regular basis. She has a good high release on her jump shot, which will suit her well at the next level. 2021 Niveya Henley, 5'11, G, Mt. Spokane HS- Left-handed player with a smooth stroke and solid frame. Range out to the three-line and a solid mid range pull up. Ball handling skills improving to match her fundamental footwork. 2021 Chenoa Louie, 6' F, Royal City HS- Big and strong forward with a good mid range game. She has a college-ready release point on her shot. She is a hard worker and expanding skill set by the rep. 2023 Nikole Thomas, 5'8, G, Future Kamiakin HS- Young player to keep an eye on in the future. She is another daughter of a coach and is a regular in the gym. The left-handed guard has very good quickness and working on her release point on her shot as she prepares to move onto the high school level.
